dude .. that's the freaking PROBLEM. Our program has been stuck in this rut FOREVER.
Yes and it will take MORE than a couple of years to get over it. Im glad you realize that we have stunk it up for years and become insignificant in basketball not only nationally but in our home town. Now we are in the Big East which is a double edge sword, yes we get more exposure by being in the best league but we also have to play those great teams and get our heads bashed in by them. Lets see what Heath does with four years of recruiting, our fans will not return until they think that we can sniff an NIT bid. It will happen but it will not happen overnight or if USF starts switching coaches every two years.
Florida is NOT a basketball state and even if we are winning dont expect mpre than 8k per game. Look at FSU,UM and even UF with its NC titles and compare heir atendance #s.
FSU's numbers are up this year because they are winning (plus hosted UF), but yes, historically, FSU usually plays to an half empty building (or worse) and while UF doesn't sell out most of its non-conf games, UF does sellout most of their SEC home games (i.e. 12,000).
Heck, even Miami, a very good ACC team, struggles to draw fans in their still in their on-campus arena.
Earlier this week, FSU (14-4 at the time) played at Miami (14-3), and only 6,900 fans showed up to see that game vs two good teams this year.
Football is definitely KING in FLA, especially college, but there is some pretty good college basketball played at several places this year in FLA yet many folks still don't bother to show up (including UCF) outside big games.
Economy can have something to do with it as it might hit those programs that historically struggle to draw fans obviously might find it even harder to draw in fans this year, even if they are winning.
Solid hoop programs will almost always play to packed houses...as most tickets are gone months before the season starts.
