Cuse/Georgetown/UConn
What these rivalries mean to us. From a Cuse perspective.

RE: Cuse/Georgetown/UConn
Honestly the Uconn/SU rivalry was always pretty lame. The problem was that other than a few BET games. The two never really prevented each other from anything. In the 90's and 00s during Uconn's run. Uconn was pretty much a few steps above Cuse pretty much every year except 97, 01, 03, 07 and during 97, 01, 07, Uconn sucked so bad that there was nothing to win anyways. So the two never compete against each other for something meaningful. I mean sure SU beat Uconn a few times in the BET but other than that it was nothing. Before the 90s Uconn always sucked and no one even gave them a thought. The two teams have never been great at the same time.

Uconn actually doesn't have a true rival in the Big East. Since there was never a team during their run that was a staple as a thorn at their sides.

There are 0 teams in the BE that I actually root to lose in OOC.

The two closest teams that can be Uconn rivals are Pitt and St John.

Pitt and Uconn have been battling for most of the 2000s. Every game have been absolute wars and its actually the BE game these days that I want to win the most.

St Johns meant a lot back in the period before Pitt's rise when Jarvis was running the team and they were making BET finals and going deep in the NCAA. The extra hatred between Jarvis and Calhoun made it extra special. That ended though since St John's has been so bad for so long. Plus not only is Jarvis gone. St John fans hate Jarvis now as much as we do. They're long forgotten.

If Providence were any good they'd be a decent rival for UConn...I remember seeing those two play quite a bit in the early '90s on ESPN's "Rivalry Week" games.

The school most UCONN fans hate the most is Boston College. We have owned them on the hardwood. If they ever start to play again, it could be bad.

If St. Johns ever become good again, they would be a great rivalry too. When Jarvis was there, it was pretty intense.

RU is becoming more and more hated each day. If they ever get a pulse on the hardwood, it could be pretty good too since we both are state schools. We already are developing a nice rivalry in women's basketball and football. Men's bball have been the usual annual beat down so far, but they could turn it around if they get a good coach that can coach and recruit.

RE: Cuse/Georgetown/UConn
Cuse fans have the fiercest rivalries in basketball with Georgetown and then UConn then Notre Dame/Nova/Pitt/ WVU. Following behind: St Johns, Rutgers and Providence. SJU used to be a big one but they have sucked for awhile. We haven't built one up with any of the new teams but Cincy and Louisville hold the most promise.

We have no rival in the Big East for Football...tend to think RU and UConn will be it down the road. We have to get good again though.

RE: Cuse/Georgetown/UConn
An OOC border rivalry for UConn that never came to fruition was UMass.

The deal was signed for game #1 and the next thing we knew, Calipari was on his way to the Nets. Once that happened, UMass slipped into obscurity. (although they did beat UConn once)

The two teams played a number of times, but you'd have to think that if Calipari stayed, it really would've been a 'rivalry'.
