You might be a democrat if....
You own something that says, "Dukakis for President, " and still display it.
You've ever said, "We really should call the ACLU about this."
You believe that a few hundred loggers can find another career, but the defenseless spotted owl must live in its preferred tree.
You ever based an argument on the phrase, "But they can afford a tax hike because..."
You keep count of how many people you know in each racial or ethnic category.
You believe our government must do it because everyone in Europe does.
You can't talk about foreign policy without using the word conspiracy.
You think Ralph Nader makes a lot of sense.
You don't understand why anyone was bothered by Jane's trip to Hanoi.
You think solar energy is being held back by those greedy oil companies.
You've never been mugged.
You actually expect to collect Social Security.
You think the State of Florida should have tried to reform Ted Bundy.
You think the Great Society has actually worked.
You don't see the similarity between WONK and WANK.
You got teary-eyed during the film "The American President."
You think Ayn Rand is an African currency.
Your house smells like a garbage dump because of your commitment to recycling.
You think political patronage describes the Kennedy family.
Your High School Year Book goals included the words "help people."
You think the Free Market is where they hand out Government cheese.
You think Carter should be on Mt. Rushmore.
You believe personal injury lawyers when they say they are just trying to defend the little guy.
You know that those profit mongering drug companies could find a cure for AIDS if they really wanted to.
You actually believe the NY Times and Washington Post.
You know at least one Vegan.
You trust Teddy Kennedy when he said that she was driving.
You'd rather own Birkenstock than Merck Stock.
You think public housing is great, but just NIMBY.
You think the anti-war protestors from '60s are the real heroes.
You think that Supply Side Economics refers to your dope dealer's stash.
You think Michael Jackson is a great example of diversity.
You actually think that poverty can be abolished.
You think that Joan Baez had something to say.
You admire the Swedish welfare system.
You know that Jefferson really meant to say "Entitled to Happiness."
You think the Flat Tax should be at 95%
You go to Gay Pride Day parades so that no one can call you homophobic.
After looking at your pay stub you can still say, "America is undertaxed."
You feel Fidelity means not cheating on your mistress.
You think that pornography corrupts women, but find nothing wrong with a 50 year old president seducing a 21 year old intern.
You cry every May 4th over the four people killed at Kent State, but have never been to the Vietnam Memorial.
You tout the NAACP, but criticize anyone referring to a black man as a "colored person."
You feel that being convicted of treason is an infringement on your first amendment rights.
You think it is ok for a President to commit perjury on his sex life, but criticize Dan Quayle for spelling potato/potatoe wrong.
You stood on a soapbox demanding that Anita Hill be heard, but want Paula Jones' accusations to be swept under the rug.
You think the guy who drops out of High School and builds your jeep deserves more money than the doctor who went to college for 10 years and saves your kids life.
You sang along to "Give Peace a Chance" during the Gulf War.
You've filed for unemployment within two weeks of getting out of high school.

He payes taxes that pay for all the Democrats' welfare programs. Don't those "help" people? Oh wait, bad example.

I think that one refers to the naivety of most libs. I think your response proves that it is fitting.

Not when I was in high school. How many charities did you work for during your 4 (assumption) high school years?

I never worked for a charity but helping people doesn't just consist of donating money. I spent time in high school at a nursing home where I sat with the elderly who basically had no family support.

When did I say something about the government helping people. I've always been one for saying that the government does not need to step in and do my part in helping people. I believe as Americans we need to stick together and help each other ourselves (and it does not have to be monetarily based).

Agreed. I helped others by making sure the workers in the alcohol industry always had jobs. That alcohol also gave me the courage to help out women, albeit for one night, who had been denied companionship due to certain physical challenges they possessed. I woke up many a morning with coyote arm.

RE: You might be a democrat if....
Thought I would improve on some of these

You might be a democrat if....

You own something that says, "Dukakis for President, Nader for President, Gore for President, Kerry for President, and Hillary Clinton for President"(hey, you were for her before you were against her) and still display it.

You keep count of how many people you know in each racial or ethnic category, and preface most discussions on race or ethnicity with “I have friends who are black, Muslim, gay" etc, even though you really don’t have any friends who are black, Muslim or gay.

You can't talk about foreign policy without using the word conspiracy, or Zionism

You think Ralph Nader makes a lot of sense, and Cynthia McKinney really cares about Palestine.

You don't understand why anyone was bothered by Jane's trip to Hanoi, and the whole posing with North Vietnamese troops on an anti-aircraft gun was just a bad PR moment.

You think solar energy is being held back by those greedy oil companies, and instead of helping to feed the world, biotech farming techniques will breed mutants, and DDT kills falcons not malaria carrying mosquitos.

You've never been mugged but totally understand the "poverty" reasons of the muggers

You actually expect to collect Social Security as your main mean of retirement income

You got teary-eyed during the film "The American President." and “Redacted”, which you saw on opening night

Your High School Year Book goals included the words "help people." ”save the whales” and “know justice, know peace”.

You think Carter and Obama should be on Mt. Rushmore.

You know that those profit mongering drug companies could find a cure for AIDS if they really wanted to, which they could, if they had enough money for R&D, which strangely is completely dependent on sales of pharmaceuticals, and not on the amount of free medicine handed out.

You actually believe the NY Times, Washington Post the Village Voice, Rense, Daily Kos, and the Huffington Post.

You know at least one Vegan and experimented with it that one time in college

You think public housing is great, but just NIMBY and preferably on the other side of a large highway

You think Michael Jackson is a great example of diversity, but Clarence Thomas is Uncle Tom.

You actually think that poverty can be abolished by giving a couple bucks a day to the boozehound on the corner 3rd and Cedar.

You think the Flat Tax should be at 95% for anyone making more money than you

You go to Gay Pride Day parades so that no one can call you homophobic, even though secretly you really don’t agree with any of it

You tout the NAACP, but have never donated even one dollar in support

You feel that being convicted of treason is an infringement on your first amendment rights but the Second Amendment is really something about a militia that was only needed 300 years ago.

You think it is ok for a President to commit perjury in front of a Grand Jury but criticize Dan Quayle for spelling potato/potatoe wrong and George Bush saying “stategery”.

You stood on a soapbox demanding that Anita Hill be heard, but want Paula Jones' and the other 3 women’s accusations to be swept under the rug.

RE: You might be a democrat if....
Part of the reason that George Bush came up with "Compassionate Conservatism" is that many in the Religious Right do help out in disasters (the Southern Baptists handed out more meals after Katrina than the Red Cross), work in soup kitchens, visit people in prisons, care for the elderly and the sick. Sometimes its more insular in that they take care of their own, and other times its more public. They just do it, and they don't pose for pictures and don't hold a press conference.
