RE: English's Contract
275,000 is a fraction of what a winning div 1 football team can do for a college! Fact of the matter is nobody cheers, or buys a t-shirt because someone built a new radio telescope! However, winning and winning big does generate interst, and revenue to help facilitate the construction of a new radio telescope. Look at TCU for example. In the 90's TCU couldnt play dead in a western, enter Dennis Frachione and Gary Patterson, Enrollment is up, Construction on campus is way up, and facilities improve daily. I understand were talking private vs public, however a successful athletic program (football mainly) has been been the catalyst. Oh and for a comparisson, the HC at TCU make over 1mil a year. In terms of bowls EMU and TCU could play for the same trophy. 275,000 is nothing. I am happy Coach English came to EMU for that amount!

central michigan, gonzaga (basketball), boise state, fresno state, eastern carolina, just to name a few other mid-sized universities which have seen growth after their football teams have been begun winning. rutgers, albeit a larger university's enrollment went up once the football team had numerous successful seasons. gotta market and keep things going from the president and co. tho, too.
