Jagodzinski Fired - it's official
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College has terminated the employment of head football coach Jeff Jagodzinski, the University announced today. A search for his successor will begin immediately.

The announcement was made by Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo at a 3 p.m. press conference in the Yawkey Athletics Center on campus.

"As I've said before, Jeff has done a wonderful job here," DeFilippo said. "Today's action relates to a difference of vision for the future. A coach of his talents and personality will have many future opportunities, and I am certain of his continued success."

"My family and I have enjoyed and cherished being a part of this great community," Jagodzinski said. "I would like to thank many people, especially Father Leahy and Gene DeFilippo, for the privilege to work here. I am so proud of what these student-athletes and our staff have accomplished during our tenure here. I wish everyone at Boston College the best in the years to come, both on and off the field."

Jagodzinski was named BC's 33rd head football coach on December 19, 2006, and signed a five-year contract. He leaves Boston College with a 20-8 record (11-3 in 2006, 9-5 in 2007). In both seasons, the Eagles advanced to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game.

Jagodzinski came to BC after one season as the offensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers. He spent eight seasons as an NFL assistant coach with the Packers and the Atlanta Falcons. He also served on college staffs at East Carolina, LSU, Northern Illinois and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

DeFilippo said Jagodzinski was terminated without cause but did not comment on the specifics of Jagodzinski's contract. DeFilippo said the search for Jagodzinski's replacement would include both internal and external candidates. He did not discuss a specific timeline.

This may have been a convenient excuse for BC. According to a Packers beat reporter, Jag was a perfect name for the guy. He ranked him as one of the all time jags that ever was associated with the Packers. He is up there with some real fine individuals on that list. Didn't think he was all that great of a coach either, and was shocked that BC would fall for his schtick. He was one of those guys that was always trying to move up the ladder and was only nice if you could do something for him.

Well I want to see the next guy take BC to TWO straight ACC championship games. The reality is that BC is not that great of a`place to coach and the success they have had with coaches, choose a bad one and BC can fall apart fast

Weird....then how do you explain Coughlin, O'Brien, and Jags all winning there?

Seems like its a great place to coach a solid program year in and year out.

BC has averaged 8.5 wins each and every year for the past 10 years.

BC has also gone to 10 straight bowl games as well, winning EIGHT of them.

To me, that seems like a great place actually to be a HC.

BC is going to interview from outside the program as well as inside. Hmmm. I wonder if those from outside will be fired from where they are now. If BC wants to hire someone who will be loyal, I guess they cant hire from outside can they? Because if those candidates were really loyal they wouldnt be looking to leave their current situation. right?03-lmfao

How do I explain it? How about choosing good coaches that then move on? If it was such a great place then tell me why did O'Brien leave for a fellow ACC program with less success?
The reality is that they have been very lucky on those that they have chosen, as i said before choose wrong and youll see how fast all those accomplishments end at BC

Whatever... He was looking out for himself, which is like everyone else on this planet. Trying to get as much as he can, while he can. You can't blame him for that. That's what everyone told Mountaineer fans last year when Rodriguez left for Michigan. Whether or not he is a great coach is irrelevant to his situation...

BC is doing the same. They just want a coach who wants to be there long-term, so they don't need to hire a new coach every other year - like they have since they joined the ACC. Good grief! Since their move they've gone through 2 coaches...

I really think that's what Jurich was looking for w/ Krags, and undoubtedly got it. Good luck w/ your coaching search, BC... 03-lmfao

How much of a hypocrite will DeFilippo look like if he interviews anybody who's currently under contract with another school? Imagine if he decided to try to hire Turner Gill away from Buffalo. There should be a pretty fair sense of outrage...

Great comment, but I kind of admire how BC stood up for what they believe. Still, that is an excellent analysis of their current situation. But since I don't give a crap about BC, this story means little to me.

RE: Jagodzinski Fired - it's official
Coach Jag and of course Coach Logan have some history down here at ECU. A local radio guy was talking this morning about a conversation he had with Coach Jag before this season. Some things were very surprising. Some were not. Coach Jag was saying that no matter what he did with that program, they would never be better than page 5 in the newspapers. It is a HEAVY pro town and nothing else really matters. This is not surprising. What is surprising to me is that BC does not even have a football radio or TV show?!?!

Coach Jag wanted to leave. The BC job was a way to increase in stock in the football world and even be considered for a NFL head job. The man was willing to lose his job just so he could interview. That tells you everything you need to know about the BC job.
