My night at church league ball
I have not played organized ball in about 7 years and pick up ball more than a few times in the last 3, so agreeing to play church league ball I figured I would play about 5 minutes. The league plays 4 on 4 full court sideways.
Now we only have 4 and the other team has 6, which means 40 minutes for everyone on my team. I am fat and old, so playing that many minutes is probably going to make me throw up.
Anyway, long story short, 36 to 41 with 2:30 seconds left one of our 4 players fouls out leaving us with 3 players and down 5. We cut the lead to 40 to 41 with 24 seconds left and we have the ball. We are going to run the clock and take the last shot. We inbound the ball and the break free 3 on 2 and the guy with the ball dribbles it right out of bounds on the side line. That ends up being the game.
My bigs both shot the ball from the outside all night when we would have owned the paint.
My line 11 points on 5 of 7 and 5 boards. Good times.

Gotta love "old guy" basketball! 5 0f 7 with 5 boards sounds great! It is interesting that you play full court side to side. I am going to suggest that to our church league. I am taking a year off from 35+ team as now that i am 50+ i am looking for competition that can keep up with my stats-------survives the game, plays some "d", does not throw up, does not need EMT and a life support unit on hand. Put all those together and that my friends equals a successful night!

I hope you guys are not playing in those short shorts from 80's and earlier. ...just kidding with ya.
I was watching an old Celtics game on ESPN Classic today and was thinking in my mind, it was amazing that players could play in those tight shorts back in the day.

RE: My night at church league ball
I played in sweat pants, no lie. I probably looked really funny, but as I get older I care less.
That 5 or 7 was mostly outside shots. It was one of those nights that you are "in the zone" but know you may be a few years before you are that hot again.
The full court cross ways was a welcome sight.
My knee hurts. I don't know that I will be able to play more than a game a week. It is just hell getting old.

Many of us played in those Alum, and I remember them being very comfortable. I personally would not like shorts that came down to my calves, feeling like I was wearing a skirt or culottes. I remember when the pigs started wearing those. When they came down from a rebound, it looks like a parachute floating down. Personally, I suspect thats why they called them "shorts." They should call these today, "long pants."
I think if I were a player today, I'd like to see somehing a little longer than the old shorts, but much shorter than the ones most wear today.
