Pomeroy's regular season projection for us
just dropped to 16 games. I would say that is more realistic.

Pappy. I can't find this projection on my Pomeroy website. Where is that listed? I have the ratings, but I haven't seen where they predict how many games we'll win.

Hard to disagree with his predictions game by game. I would hope we can split with WKU and MTSU at home, and then steal one of the road games he has us losing. That would get us to 11-7, probably good enough to win the West again.

O.K. Here's a good question. Let's say we do go 16-13 and don't make the postseason. What happens then. Do we "wait until next year" or what? I'm just curious as to what all your thoughts are if this should prove the outcome of the season. I'm hoping we do better, but if we don't, and assuming that money is no issue, which we know it is, but let's assume it isn't, should we stand pat for one more year, or make a change?

What I think would happen, not necessarily should. If we win 16, I think Peterson reads Shields the riot act and he gets another year to turn it around.

I have to believe that's already been done with the turnover in our assistant coaching staff. The more I think about it, I think this is the make or break season. Probably isn't but that's my gut feeling. And as big as my gut is, any feeling there has to mean something.

But what was the magic number that was imposed?

Looking at the press guides, it looks like four. But, I don't know if they ever qualified to play in the SBC tournament or not under Lawler. I suppose for an AD, that really wasn't a tough decision to make. Sort of like when he canned the ladies coach to hire Joe Foley. That really was a no-brainer. She should have never been hired, and wasn't hired by Chris. If Joe Foley had been hired when we re-started the women's program, no telling where this program would be right now. No doubt that Chris is a pretty sharp guy, and I doubt that he'll make many mistakes in his hiring of coaches. As I stated in an earlier post, I thought Jim Lawler was a great hire for our program. You can't win them all.

Oh I suspect we'll stand pat and do nothing, and we'll still be standing pat and not being any better five years from now. If our fans are willing to support a mediocre basketball program, and don't care whether we ever win a championship and play in post season, I guess some would be willing to stand pat.

I'm trying to think like Chris on this one. Assuming we don't get to the postseason this year, I'd probably consider making a change, but I'd probably test the water with some of our big donors or other avid supporters and get their thinking on this subject. If there was a strong sentiment for a change, I'd seriously consider it, but with the team winning a Division Championship last season, and say they win 18 this year, and still having some time left on his contract, I'd also probably consider giving the staff one more season to get to the postseason. If that didn't happen next year, I'd probably make a change.
