I thought about something one of the coaches
said to me one day. I was commenting on one of our freshmen, and mentioned that he handled the ball well, but his shooting wasn't too sharp at this time. The coach laughingly said that if he could shoot he'd be playing two hours east of here. (for geographically challenged members of the board, that's where Memphis is located).
Now does that mean we are unable to recruit kids who can play and shoot the ball? And when you think of our recruiting, that pretty well has summed it up for the past six years. Tough, hard nosed kids who have limited shooting skills. We lucked into III because D1 schools weren't looking for 5'10" white shooting guards. I've seen players at some lower level D1 programs that were really good shooters. Maybe some can't qualify academically. I don't know. I just want to see us find some players who can shoot, and do the other things well enough to play for us.
