Huh?

Almost everyone I know is off till after New Year's Day.

That's why most Bowl games are held AFTER Christmas through New Years Day...as most folks are on vacation till 2009.

I don't know what planet you live on, but most folks do not get two week Christmas vacations paid by their employers to watch college bowl games.

I do. Thank you taxpayers.

But several employers tell their employees to use their vacation time by the end of the year or lose it. 04-cheers

Well...most folks got off this Thursday and Friday...and most are off next Thursday and Friday...so most folks only needed to burn 3 days of vacation to be off for 1 1/2 weeks.

I guess I was talking about my salaried friends as almost all I know are off till after New Years.

Good job Rutgers on tix sales. The BE has supported this bowl very well. USF, Cincy, and RU have all sent over 6K to this bowl, which isn't exactly a premier bowl or location.

well good for you mr rich dude... I worked till 4 pm on the 24th and am working today... and all of next week.. only you non essential paper pushers of off.. ask walmart, target, bank, resturant , taxi, gas station, airline, snow removal, bowl game workers, police, fire dept, Hospital, Ambulance or any other service/retail workers if they are off. The people who are off are those who dont have to fill real everyday needs for people.. and many don't even have the option of taking vacation days.. these business have a job to do.. and they can't do it with workers.. not working..

Most people who will be serving your elitist needs for the next week do not get off, but you will be to self asorbed to notice them.
My guess is 75 to 80 % wont have fri dec 25 thru sunday jan 4th off... and if they did things would go to hell in a handbasket very quickly.. and people like you will be the first to ***** they couldn't get a lotto tix at the local 7-11.

Good pt mlb...and getting "totally" away (mental break) is very hard to do as many folks are "connected" 24/7 regardless where they are.

there is no doubt more people are off.. but no where near a majority of them... and cert not all of them.. more will have off thurs/fri each week than all of the week... but lets be honest if 10% of workers are off.. thats a lot of people.. and the other thing is people are tied up before christmas and on christmas than after wards ... even if they are working..

No worries...as I'm about as far as an elitist guy as one could get.

PS. I deleted my post above...plus, we can always blame "it" on the internet.

I don't think as many people are taking off for 2 weeks at the end of the year any more. Companies don't give that time away, and many people use up their vacation time during the summer rather than the end of the year. Today is pretty weak in terms of attendance at my company, but come Monday we will be back to business as usual.

No kidding....when we go on vacation my wife insists I leave my laptop and blackberry at home, or only access once or twice a day. The only time I was completely off the grid was out in King's Canyon last year with the family. I have to say....it was kind of nice. ;^)

I have friends who are in pharma sales....and let's just say their crackberry never leaves their hip...at least they are making good money.

agree, the BE is proving it now has 5 schools that will at least sell (or very close) its allotment. Actually an improvement over the old BE, imo.

rutg
uconn
cin
plus usf in florida

Hmmm...actually I think USF gets a bad rap here, so let me talk up USF.

The story says USF brought 5-6K to Bham (actually I heard 6,200 tix sold from Tampa papers at the time). The same amount or slightly less than Rutgers will bring...story says 6-7K for rutgers.

USF brought wAAAAAy more than Oregon to the Sun bowl. Try driving or flying from FL to El Paso TX sometime. It will be more than Pitt will bring probably.

USF brought 23,000+ to St Pete bowl, and would do at least that many to Gator or another FL bowl. Not great...we've been over the reasons why St Pete bowl didn't sell out (Memphis sold hardly any tickets and returned almost all 10K), but USF did as good or better than Navy did to DC bowl.

Only bowl USF did "poorly" really was MCCB, when they "only" brought 5,200.

Memphis had 2,000 folks there...USF had 20,000...there were MAYBE a real 22,500 folks at that game and it was called 25,055 because of tickets sold.

i was kinda surprised by the USF crowd...i thought they would bring around 25,000.

if Memphis hadn't of had an ESPN basketball game that night would would have had 5,000+ there.

Go Tigers!!!

RE: PapaJohns.com Bowl ticket sales
Why would you be surprised USF had 20k at a bowl where unless you a die-hard there was no interest on and not much in the case of publicity was done by bowl to get people there.
USM played in New Orleans 100 miles away from their home and I doubt that they took 20k there. I could say the same of Navy playing in DC.

The fact are this minor bowls will only get the attention of the die-hard fans and being close will improve the numbers as seen by USF 20k there but there is probably little difference for the regular fan between playing Memphis in St Pete Bowl or playing them in a regular game, in fact they would be more likely to go to the regular season game because it means more and RJS is a way better venue than Tropicana for football.

So while I wish USF would have taken more fans to that game, im tired of all this BS about USF only taking so many to this bowl while others have done worse and are given a pass.
and give me abreak 30 miles from campus to st Pete and 100 miles for other teams is NOT a huge difference in travel for either fan base.
