"Eastern Michigan has hired Ron English, making him the fifth black head football coach in major college football, a person familiar with the contract agreement told The Associated Press on Sunday.

The person, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the school hasn’t announced its decision, said English will be introduced at a news conference Monday."

I guess the ink will be dry by 1:00 p.m. tomorrow.

A little off topic, but I always wondered why Al Lavan didnt get the HC job after he took over after Woodruff. Anyone know?

No TJ I don't. Lavan did an excellent job as interim coach and his offense was three yards and a cloud of dust. Impressive NFL resume. Really don't know, the guys EMU thought they had the time were Brian Kelly, Ron Vanderlinden both who turned it down etc etc and Genyk was then AD's third choice. Lavan was mentioned this time around too early in the process since he's done a decent job at Delaware State where he is now head coach. His name wasn't mentioned in the interview process and he's not a name Lloyd Carr would bring up.

the english signing is official. The school is making a big deal about it to all of us students. I even got a text message on my phone from the school that emu hired english lol. I thought that it was for emergencies and alerts only... didn't realize i would get the coach hiring as well they seem pretty excited!
