DeKALB – When senior defensive end Larry English leaves Northern Illinois, there is going to be a 6-foot-3, 255-pound hole on the Huskies’ defense.

And although it will be nearly impossible to replace the production of the two-time Mid-American Conference Most Valuable Player, two NIU defenders might be able to help fill the void.

Junior Brandon Bice and sophomore Jake Coffman quietly put together solid seasons this year. Bice had five sacks for the Huskies. Coffman saw an increase in playing time in the past month and made the most of it. In NIU’s past three games, Coffman has 12 tackles and a forced fumble.

Both our ends are going to be gone, so it's going to be real interesting to see who comes out of the 2 deeps next season.

Bice is a guy who I always thought was a good player, he just needs to put it together.
