I'll admit I was wrong
This doesn't happen very often (me being wrong). I made a comment a year or two ago (probably in anger) about Memphis having a better FB team in the future than UC. I was wrong.

A great coach has a lot to do with it. Being in a BCS conference probably has some to do with it.

I hope all of the UC fans enjoy the Orange Bowl. While I wish it was Memphis, it's good to see that a school that was very recently closely tied to Memphis can get it done. It gives me hope.

I may actually pull for the Bearcats. That doesn't happen very often.

I've always liked 3601, always a straight shooter and this just adds to the respect level. In all honesty Memphis seems like it has a great fanbase overall, better than my own at Rutgers I'm afraid. Hopefully you folks will be aboard sooner rather than later. Memphis and Temple for a 10-team conference anyone?

I've always thought Cincy was a solid program that was a little under appreciated. The advantage Cincy has over Louisville, and some other Big East programs, is that it is located in an area with pretty good high school football.

Yes only Rutgers, USF, and Pitt have the same level of high school football around it.

Memphis and Louisville has good football. What about Male, St. X, Germantown, Briarcrest, Whitehaven?

I like him too (and we have several beers together), but we disagree on a few things. One being our football coach. I think he is one of the best coaches in the nation and wouldn't trade him for anybody I can think of. There may be some who are better, but he is the perfect fit for Memphis.

Here's the way I see Louisvile-Cincinnati:

Cincinnati Advantages
- Abundant local high school talent
- Abundant in-state high school talent
- Large student population (36K - more than Nippert seats)
- Large alumni base
- More corporations (i.e. more sponsorship opportunities)

Cincinnati Disadvantages
- Heavy competition from pro sports (Bengals and Reds)
- Heavy competition from other college programs (OSU, ND, and UK)
- Media has largely ignored them
- Facilities

Louisville Advantages
- Facilities
- Decent sized metro area with much less competition.
- Louisville follows college sports more than Cincinnati does IMO
- UofL gets pretty $$$ from every major sponsor in town

Louisville Disadvantages
- Not as much local talent as in Cincinnati
- Nowhere near the level of in-state talent
- Smaller student body (22K)
- Smaller alumni base
- Smaller potential market than Cincinnati.

The biggest difference IMO between UC and UofL is that UofL has to rely on out-of-state talent to be competitive in the Big East while UC could probably field a good team off local/in-state talent alone. Each has its own benefits and challenges. For UC, the biggest challenge is beating big football programs like OSU and ND for local recruits. For UofL, the biggest challenge is locking down as much local talent as possible and then hitting football states like florida, Texas, Ohio, etc for other recruits.

If I had my choice, I'd rather be UC because I think it is easier to stay competitive / bounce back when you have a local pipeline than it is to stay competitive and bounce back when you rely 90% on other states to provide talent for you.

Well I was inferring Big East members only with the statement. And as for Louisville the state as a whole produces little 1-A talent. NJ, PA, OH, and FL produce a lot of 1-A talent. That's more what I was thinking.

Wow, I am amazed that you would actually make that claim; but even more stupefied that you would bring it back up when we had forgotten.

But, thanks anyway. Hopefully UC can give you a good BB game this year!

Unlike some, I've never called for Tommy's firing. Unlike you, however, I do have reservations about next season. Next year will be Tommy's 9th year at Memphis. If we don't win the East Division next season then I'm not sure that he'll ever get it done. That being said, I do have faith that he can get it done. Hell, he could have this year.

I would trade him for Tuberville, Petrino, Stoops, Saban, Nutt, Tressel, Meyer, Kelly, or Peterson.

The only item I disagree with is facilities. UL has very nice ones maybe some are even nicer but the LOCATION of them in the indsutrial/highway area that is nothing like Varsity Village and the UC campus in general. I think UL is making great strides to make the general area better just like UC etc. I think the two are a wash with all the pros and cons of each.

I meant more in terms of having an indoor practice facility, the stadium itself, etc.

Thanks for the words, 3601. I do admit that being in this conference had a LOT, probably EVERYTHING, to do with Kelly coming to UC.
