Exclamation Barker Lane Completion
Anyone heard any details on how they plan to finish the stadium? I was wondering if they were going to stick with the original drawings weve already seen. Have they started any work yet?

Seems like I heard they would resume work in, either, December or January. All the money isn't there yet, though, and I'm not sure what they can do in the meantime.

One thing about it.....the coaches have a lot more to show recruits now than they did this time last year.

I've heard some mixed messages that the money may not be available now or even in the next few years and the facility may stay the same for two or three more seasons. I think it is a shame but unless they raise the money in this economy I can't see the university or athletic department doing much without the necessary funds. I feel bad for the players on campus or that will be coming to campus as recruits that have been promised a completed facility.

It would be nice if they can do a little on the future home side - pour the sidewalks, build the restrooms and concessions that would eventually be below the stands (if they can work it around the current press box.

Also, perhaps they can work on that ticket booth/entrance located at the highway that's shown in the artist's rendering.

They're putting-up the stadium sign next to the highway now.

Will it be similar to the sign next to the arena?

It is a shame that we are in the economic situation that we are in as well. They may have been promised this but they will just have to understand the way things are now. They will get it completed it just may take a little longer.

I am not surprised that only 50 or 60 stayed. We will add another 40 or so this year and will add about the same the next couple of years to where we have about 20 or so players in each class.

This is normal. Looks like we are bringing in some more size this year. We will need some size if we are to compete this year.

I disagree, this is far from normal. You can not build a program with this kind of turn over. If this continues every year will be like a start up. Kids that buy into what your building will want to stay; doesn't appear to many are buying in.

We did not have but about 30 or 40 players on the field. Many of the rest were just filling positions. We did not have an offensive line at all. I would replace the entire line. They are not DIV 1. It does not good to get a QB if you can't protect him. Most of the 40 that stay will play for three more years. We will add several more classes and there will be about 20 players per class. What did you think we were going to do. Keep all 100 players and only add a handful. From what I say this year about half of the players needed to go. We had some offensive linemen who did not offer to block anyone all season. I watched them play after play. They could atleast get in the way I was about as upset with the line as Coach O was. I did not express it with the same words he did but I felt about the same way. We will replace them with better players who have more size. The guys aren't on scholarships so they are not tied to stay for four years. We are going to have some turnover. Some of it will be good. We have got to get better on defense and get an offense that can keep the ball and run some clock to give our defense a chance. We are going to have to get some size for that. It is going to take a while. I would not get too worried at this point.

What worries me more is we have a basketball team that could have beaten every team they have taken the court against this year and have only won 10 games. That bothers me. We have all the talent in the world and don't know what to do with it. We have been playing basketball for many years and just can't seem to get it together. That is disappointing.

The football team is going to lose a lot of games for a while. We are starting from scratch. it is going to take a long time. I am prepared for that. Everyone else needs to prepare for the same because that is how it is probably going to be. If you expect much more you are going to be disappointed. We may win two games in 09, three or four in 10 and maybe 5 at best in 11. Then we may level out at that level for a while. It is going to be a long ride.

I agree patience (which I have little of is going to be the key with football). Basketball is another story. They have the talented to win now and just haven't been able to put it together consistently game-to-game for a while. Sure they have had stretches of being amazing but the team needs to play better and not blow 20 points lead in the last four minutes of a game.

Very frustrating.

RE: Barker Lane Completion
Camelfan, if half of our first year team should go then they shouldn't have been there in the first place. Yes I expect us to keep the first class in the history of the program together, that is how you build a program. I am not talking about winning, just setting the corner stone on discipline, character, and TEAM WORK. Next year if we march out 100 new faces we wasted a year. If I were building this deal it would be about character, I would not only talk to coaches, I would talk to teachers, and guidance counselors, etc. I would find good kids who want to play, who perhaps thought their careers were over. These are the kids who will stick it out in the these trying years of a start up. Jim Grobe used and still uses this formula at Wake Forest (clearly the talent level is different; however he gets kids who are coachable and of good character).

Basketball is different, the TIME IS NOW. We have a sweet on campus arena. We should be winning and planning our escape from the A Sun. We need local rivlas, we have a basketball tradition, absolutely no excuses.

There were about half of the guys who had no business playing Div 1 football. We had trouble with the Div III teams. We could be competetive with DIV III. We have got to bring in some size to compete on the DIV I level. That is what they appear to be trying to do this year. You have got to have something to build on I agree but some of the guys we have just did not have the potential to do that. I hope they have kept the players they can begin to build the program with and bring in several more classes over the next few years to hopefully have a team that can compete. You can't bring in new talent if you don't have a spot for them. Some of the players had to go to make way for those that are coming in. Most teams are not starting from scratch and don't have to bring in 100 or so players the first year. What were you wanting 100 seniors 25 juniors 25 sophmores and 25 freshmen or something like that. We are only going to have about 100 total. in 09 we will have about 50 sophmores and 50 freshmen. In 10 we will have about 35 juniors 35 sophmores and about 30 freshmen. in 11 we will have about 25 of each. That means you have lost over 75% of the original players that started on the team in 08. They are going to continue for a couple more years of bringing in larger freshmen classes until they have a core of upperclassmen that they can work with. Then you will see things get to normal.

Just my thoughts on this.
