I have respect for...
the student athletes at this school, or any school for that matter. This time of year is always a tough one for students as we all know leading into finals in a very short period of time. I have respect for these athletes because I am not sure I personally could do what I'm doing now (history major) and practice, games, traveling, etc. I know they probably get some special treatment, but I'm sure it's still very difficult. Does anyone have any insight for me or anyone else who may care how these students do it? Do they have tutors? Do they get cut some slack on assignments late and stuff? I really don't have any clue, and I just think it'd be interesting to know.

RE: I have respect for...
Escalade - I played basketball in college and it is very difficult. Most of the time the professors do not give athletes any slack because of fear of favortism. Most of the time if they are going to miss an assignment or a test they have to turn it in early as opposed to late. Every Division 1 team should have their own tutors or at least Athletic Department tutors and KSU is just now getting to that point. Tutors do not normally travel with the team unless the team is big time however I have heard that KSU will have a tutor traveling with them this year. What most people do not think about is that college basketball players have only one break during the school year and that is spring break (unless they make the NCAA tournament then they don't have any breaks). There were many years that I was able to come home Christmas eve only to return back to practice on Christmas day in the evening. Thanksgiving is taken with travel and games and even valentines day is often spent on the court. You get used to balancing your classes after your first couple of years but the hardest part to get used to is missing your family during the holidays.
