Edsell to Cuse, Turner Gill to UConn...

If Syracuse were smart they would just take Gill, if they can get him. He is already building a solid program in New York, so why not stay and make more money at a national program like Syracuse. Meanwhile Edsall can keep up the solid work at Connecticut.

Because SU is looking out for its own interests, not UConn's. At this stage it isn't a Kum-Ba-Ya sing-along where everyone has to be happy. If SU feels Edsall is their top candidate and he wants to be at SU, its in SU's best interest. UConn will be fine.

I'd be happy with Turner Gill but it doesn't sound like he's at the top of the list.

IIRC $1.3M a year

Does Syracuse have that kind of jack to give him more than $1.3M? I'm guessing it would take $2 million a year to get him to leave with a long contract.

Syracuse is a rich school...around $1B in kitty

Well...half that money will be gone when Cuse has to spend tons to:

1) Finishing paying Robinson for his remaining years on his contract

2) Hiring a coach away from another program

3) Fire their AD (Dr Gross) who hired Robinson in the first place

4) Hire a good AD away from another program

5) New AD will have to fire the replacement coach that Cuse's former AD (Dr Gross) hired that replaced his first hire Greg Robinson

Just kidding!!!

Still...these mistakes can cost Cuse big time both now and in the near future.

good news for Syracuse. Probably a year later than it should have been, but we all knew it was going to happen eventually.

Would Edsell make what would essentially be a lateral move? It might be hard for him to take a job at a conference rival of his current employer.

The thing that sucks is he gets to coach the last 2 games. 03-banghead

Let this be any other profession he'd be out of there today.

This seems to be a trend with the collegiate area. Clemson was lambasted for letting Bowden leave immediately, but it sounds like it was the best thing for the program as there felt like a mutiny was about to occur.

Fair point matt. I just think that Gill is a great fit for Syracuse. Edsall though could sell Syracuse since he loves the school, so that might be what the Orange are looking for. If that happens, and he leaves, I think UConn should throw a ton of money at Gill. I think he's the next big superstar. I think Syracuse should seriously consider him as well.

Edsall is denying interest in the SU job...not sure if it is legit or smoke and mirrors.

Rumor is Gill is being told to avoid Syracuse as he is the next likely B12 hire

As the world turns.

It aint happenin baby, Edsall said today he is stayin and Conn being one of the wealthiest states in the USA will never let him go to barren and cold Syracuse NY. At least Storrs is only 1.5 hrs to Beantown, go huskies.....

Its good to see Edsell stepping up and saying he's going to stay at UConn. But seriously until somebody is named H.C. of Cuse, Edsell is the name we are going to hear the most.
