You are a good fan. Heck of a game. It was nice to not see, a Brohm, Lefors, or a Ragone behind the center.

Wilkie, even you've got to appreciate the way Krag kept the Cards fired up. Great coaching by him last night IMO.

A lot of people up here are a little upset with Kelly's Coaching style the last few weeks or at least his play calling. I figure I live with his gambling play calls, if the alternative is another Dontonio.

Last night was our first trip to Papa's Johns. You have a really nice stadium and surrounding area. What do you have to do to get a invitation to one of the cabooses? The parking lot(g?) that goes on forever makes more sense today now that I know the stadium site was a former rail yard.

This trip was much better than last years trip to Pittsburgh. Getting out of there with a win might have something to do with that but I though your fans were much better also. Good luck with West Virginia and Rutgers.

Agreed grubs, we're a little upset with Kelly's playcalling but we wouldn't have it any other way considering Dantonio's style. That was a heck of a game!

I'll have to disagree with you there for a few reasons.

1) Louisville possession at 13:10 in the 4th quarter was the dumbest series I've seen us play all year. Down by 1 point and driving and here is what gets called in:

1st and 20 at UC 25 Bilal Powell rush for 4 yards.
2nd and 16 at UC 21 Bilal Powell rush for a loss of 2 yards.
3rd and 18 at UC 23 Louisville penalty 5 yard delay of game.
3rd and 23 at UC 28 Brock Bolen rush for no gain.

We needed 20, 16, and 23 yards and we ran out of the I-formation every single time. Who coaches like that? If you want to settle for a field goal (our best kicker is only 1-4 beyond 30 yards), why not attempt at least one pass?

2) We must have ran 20 sweeps that game despite the fact that not a single one of them worked. While I have nothing against the sweep, it was pretty clear that our line wasn't blocking/containing Cincinnati's DE's and DBs. The sweep that sticks out most in my mind was a right sweep where the Louisville player straight down the line and out of bounds. Despite that, we were still calling for sweeps in the 4th.

3) 1st and 10 we run 2 plays 90% of the time. Anderson left between the Guard and the Tackle and and Anderson right between the Guard and Tackle. I don't mind running on 1st down but we literally run the same play on first down.

4) The most embarassing thing about it though is that ESPN even pointed out the playcalling in their write-up.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=283190097
"The Cardinals had their chances, but kept self-destructing behind penalties and questionable playcalling."

I watched the first half. Cincy is a solid team, but I noticed that the Louisville DB's didn't appear to want to lower their sholders and make tackles.

Good observation. Their DBs did that last year also, and they try to strip the ball.

I think you need to give Krag more time....and I'm not kidding either. He cleaned house when he got there from what I understand and a lot of bad eggs/good players left....it's rebuidling time and that takes time (see UC hoops for example)

I was very impressed with the number of Cincy fans who made the trip. I haven't seen that many Bearcats in our stands ever before. They were not only in their section, they were scattered throughout the stadium. Unfortunatley our fans have somewhat given up on the season. The stadium was half empty. That was ugly, despite the high school playoffs and bad weather. I hate losing, but Cincy got the Jug back. Does, it feel good?

Its a relief - I'm already looking forward to next year's game!

That post highlights a few things that are causing a severe division among UofL fans right now.

1) When Kragthorpe first took over, both he and Jurich talked about how UofL was going to have a great season and might return to a BCS game. Brian Brohm and ~75% of the Orange Bowl team was back and UofL started highly ranked (top 10 IIRC). The "mess" and "rebuilding" talk didn't begin until about halfway through Krag's first season after some embarassing early season losses.

2) Jurich and Krags keep saying that they inherited a mess from Petrino, yet neither one of them have given any details on what that mess was. Was it bad recruiting? Was Petrino paying police to keep kid's names out of the police reports? Did he hire people to do the kid's homework? Was it discipline issues? When fans see 6-6 and an almost guarenteed 0-5 finish to the second season and all they hear is "Well, he is a good coach. He just landed in a bad situation" with no explanation what so ever, they tend to get ticked. Add in that Brian Brohm was recently quoted on local radio as saying that there were some players with issues on the team but Petrino kept them in line (on and off the field) and it makes matters worse.

3) A lot of what has been said doesn't jive with what's going on on the field. For example, when Jeff was promoted to OC at the end of last year, he said that he wanted to run a Petrino style offense (Pro set, 2 back sets, lots of play-action). Watching UofL all season long, we haven't run anything resembling a Petrino-style offense (lot of 1 back sets, sweeps, etc).

4) I'd be okay with the rebuilding excuse (though I think it is complete BS and mostly Krags own doing) if we were recruiting. The fact of the matter is, it doesn't look like we are going to be coming out of the crapper anytime soon. We are way behind every other Big East team (and UK) both in terms of quantity and quality of players.

I may have to re-evaluate Krags if he convinced UC and Coach Kelly to take a jug back to Cincy instead of the Keg.
