Valpo
Valpo defeated Davidson 35-29 at home, but gave up 40+ points in losses to San Diego (14-42), Butler (21-48), Dayton (7-43), Morehead (10-44), and JU (24-40). Hopefully CU can, at least, get Willets into fg territory for 3 Saturday!!

I'll predict something around 28-13 Valpo. Hope it isn't another 40+ pt shutout.

(Back in the summer, this is the game I thought CU would be able to get its 3rd and final victory of the season in.)

RE: Valpo
28-13 would be a great score. I think it's feasible

RE: Valpo
I don't know who will be the starter on Saturday. If the line does not block any better than last time, I say put some of the linemen back there and see how they like getting creamed when no one blocks.

Seriously - I think Munro will be the starter. He is mobile and does a fairly good job passing the ball.

Until we learn how to block or get someone who wants to block on the team we will have to have a mobile quarterback. A pocket passer is going to get killed if we can't keep a pocket for him.
That's probably why both of them are hurt.

RE: Valpo
Very disappointing game for the CU players and supporters. Some of the worst play calling I have ever witnessed in all my years of watching college football. I mean how many interceptions do you have to see to realize you really might not should be throwing the ball particularly in certain situations. At the end of the half 10-7 Valpo with 1 min to go CU with the ball on the 6 yard line 1st and goal and a timeout in hand, calling 3 passes into the endzone the 3rd being another pic form the QB transfer from Conn was inexcusable. Taking a timeout to the dressing room and not getting any points on the board right then and there was the turning point of the game that contributed to a compete breakdown in the 3rd qtr. Worst case scenario is you run the ball see what you got call your timeout if you have no time management skills and tie the game with a filed goal with CU's kicker who is very good. Was it 2 picks in the 3rd qtr for a td and a punt return for a td. This was a very winnable game but the offensive play calling turned the tide and momentum of the game. Just the way I saw it. There really is no other explanation.I hate it for the kids who have worked so hard for 2 years to possibly get another win. There is no coach's speak for this. I think the players gave a very good effort.

RE: Valpo
I agree. The play calling was bad.

I don't know what the coach was thinking. Why not give Carl the ball on the five and see if he can get it in the endzone. He got them to the 5 why not give him a chance to finish. The coach only played him a few more plays the rest of the game.

I think he is a good running back. If I was him I would find somewhere else to play next season. It appears that the coaching staff either have something against the guy or just will not use him in the game. I don't know but if they can't see the talent he has compared to the other players at that position then I am sorry they have not business coaching. I have not idea what the staff was thinking. I hate to be this negative but I don't think the team has been very well coached this year.

Maybe things will get better next year.

RE: Valpo
camelfan, I agree. C.J. Oates is a fine back as well that they moved to WR and then moved back to running back when Carl was injured. The failure to establish a running game with two backs like this was a failure in our offensive scheme. Of course you have to have offensive line blocking but maybe a different running approach would have helped that. Running the football was the only hope we had as a offensive strategy and throwing it around like we had a all-American qb was a poor decision.

I agree. The play calling has been awful. I have tried to defend the coaching staff throughout the season but it gets harder and harder to do with the way the team continues to struggle. The team should of had the lead or at least been tied at the half. That sequence at the end of the half was the turning point of the game and the finger should be pointed squarely at Coach Steele. Even if he didn't call the plays (I'm not sure if he did or not) he ultimately is the one who should be held responsible.

RE: Valpo
exactly, sometimes in ballgames its hard to pinpoint a specific play or sequence of plays that determines a game, but with this young team the game was lost right then and there.

RE: Valpo
for the second week in a row, the Camels down 14-0 are still seemingly in the game in the shadows of the MSU goalposts on the MSU 5 yd line 1st and goal (approx 5 min left in the half) The first play, a good run play got to the 3yd line, 2nd and goal and then another DADGUM pass pass play called a fade to the corner which was picked for a 100 yd TD for MSU. What kind of bs call was that. YOU run the blame ball. If you don't get in you kick a field goal but you PUT POINT ON THE BOARD!The Camels could have got it to 14-7 but on 1 lame play call it's 21-0, end of momentum, ballgame just like that. The Camels go to the dressing room scoreless. You could see it, the life was out of them Frankly I simply don't understand it. Two weeks in a row. Once again, and this was true many times this season, the 7 on CU's side of the board was a much larger number than the 42 on MSU's side. Congratulations to Jacksonville University Dolphins for winning the PFL title. In my opinion they were the best team Campbell played and CU played them their 3rd game of the season,

I agree. I have to question the play calling to pass the ball for the second week in a row on the opposing goal line. That is dumb and proves that you aren't learning from your previous mistakes. I could see why the life would go out of a team if points are given away like that.

camels7778, I was there along with a nice contingent of CUfans and parent on a cold cold Kentucky afternoon. The artificial surface was frozen crystals, but when that play happened you could see the life sucked out of the players. I just about threw up.

RE: Valpo
We are going to have to run the ball, control the game and get points whenever we can. You run the ball on all four downs if you have to and if you don't get in the endzone you give the the ball on the 1 yard line. Instead - pass and 100 laters 6 points for MSU.

The longer we have the ball and take time off the clock the longer our banged up defense can rest and the better chance they have of playing better and getting a stop. We need to be about ball control until we get some experience and get some size on the team so we might actually beat some of these teams.

The coaches can help this along with the play calling and playing the players that can get the job done. Our coaching staff did not do that this year.

Maybe they will do better next year. If not it is time for some changes.
