So Rutgers wanting to be treated like an equal is ridiculous? Just another example of why South Bend, IN needs to be wiped from the face of the Earth.

RE: Dealing with ND
A true conference should be a conference of equals. Any member playing a sport that their conference offers should play it in their conference. In other words you are in or you are out! 04-cheers

RE: Dealing with ND
If the new Notre Dame athletic director is amenable to more equitable scheduling policies than Kevin White was, the Big East may have a chance to get some of the public relations fallout from last winter's Rutgers/Connecticut fiasco reversed. Rather than a 7-4-1 philosophy, Big East opponents would benefit from a 6-4-2 arrangement by the Fighting Irish instead. This would have Notre Dame playing in the Northeast every year, alternating between the Meadowlands and Gillette Stadium, rotating Big East schools as opponents. Since the Fighting Irish are also keen on playing neutral site games elsewhere, do that every year too, but with Big East teams on the other sidelines instead of the Big 12 or Pac-10. It makes sense but making it happen is the issue.

HYPOTHETICAL YEAR ONE
09-04 NOTRE DAME vs lower BCS or non-auto one+done game [Army/Tulane/USAF for example]
09-11 NOTRE DAME vs MICHIGAN
09-18 NOTRE DAME vs UCONN (neutral - jersey)
09-25 road (@ michigan state) ................................................... BE BONUS = RUTGERS @ WVU
10-02 NOTRE DAME vs PURDUE
10-09 road (@ clemson) ....................................................... BE BONUS = UCONN @ SYRACUSE
10-16 bye ................................................................................ BE BONUS = RUTGERS @ USF
10-23 NOTRE DAME vs CALIFORNIA
10-30 road (@ navy) ........................................................... BE BONUS = CINCY @ LOUISVILLE
11-06 NOTRE DAME vs PITT
11-13 NOTRE DAME vs SYRACUSE (neutral - dallas)
11-20 road (@ usc) ....................................................................... BE BONUS = WVU @ PITT
11-27 NOTRE DAME vs weaker ACC/B12/SEC one+done game [Duke/Baylor/Vandy for example]

HYPOTHETICAL YEAR TWO
09-03 NOTRE DAME vs lower BCS or non-auto one+done game [Army/Tulane/USAF for example]
09-10 road (@ michigan) ....................................................... BE BONUS = PITT @ LOUISVILLE
09-17 NOTRE DAME vs UCONN (neutral - foxboro)
09-24 NOTRE DAME vs MICHIGAN STATE
10-01 road (@ purdue) ............................................................. BE BONUS = WVU @ RUTGERS
10-08 NOTRE DAME vs CLEMSON
10-15 bye ......................................................................... BE BONUS = SYRACUSE @ UCONN
10-22 road (@ california) ........................................................... BE BONUS = USF @ RUTGERS
10-29 NOTRE DAME vs NAVY
11-05 road (@ pitt) ..................................................................... BE BONUS = WVU @ CINCY
11-12 NOTRE DAME vs SYRACUSE (neutral - phoenix)
11-19 NOTRE DAME vs USC
11-26 NOTRE DAME vs weaker ACC/B12/SEC one+done game [Duke/Baylor/Vandy for example]

An advertising voiceover can be something along the lines of ... "This season Notre Dame University football will play a total of eight nationally-televised football games on NBC. Be sure to join us on the Peacock Network as we continue our longstanding tradition of broadcasting all the excitement and pageantry of Fighting Irish football. Then, when Notre Dame is away, its friends will play. Don't miss a minute of our new NBC football feature: the Big East Bonus. Starting this fall, when the Fighting Irish are on the road, fans will be able to see five of the most exciting Big East Conference football games of the season right here on NBC. Notre Dame, the Big East Conference, and the Peacock Network: the most thrilling college football combination on television."

RE: Dealing with ND
Rumor has it, that the next bowl agreement is that the ST Pete Bowl will get the second choice of teams from CUSA. They will move up taking the GMAC bowl place. If that is the case, then I dont see Big 12 or Big 10 taking that spot at all. That is not based on CUSA but on the payout.

Buckaineer, I say look at all the articles from both Jacksonville and El Paso, you might be wrong. It seems to me that they dont want a BE team, but do want a ND team. It seems to me, based on those articles, the committee is willing to take ND over any BE team. To me, the spokeman for both bowl has made it clear on who they want.

RE: Dealing with ND
It's been said before , but he best way to "deal" with ND is for the BE to continue to win bowl games, improve the OOC record/schedule and hire top notch coaches (it sounds so simple i dont know why no ones thought of it 03-lmfao)
They should also get the catholic schools(even ND) TO PRAY that Syracuse will finally begin to turn things around next year. Hey a good word from the pope couldnt hurt 04-cheers

Champs Sports Bowl- I don't recall when, or if ever, I have seen ND play a Big Ten school in a bowl. Not happening.

ND wants seven home games at their stadium. They are not going to go back to six.

I would be mad at the bowl situation if ND took bowls from deserving conference schools, but when has that happened? ND's last two bowls have been BCS, and I think before that it was Gator and another BCS. ND will probably make the BCS next year, so don't worry guys.

Word just got in, Bit. Here's Notre Dame's new conference for playoff participation:

Notre Dame
Army
Navy
Duquesne
Fordham
Holy Cross
LaSalle
Colgate
Dayton

RE: Dealing with ND
That's a Non-BCS conference. No auto-bid. They'll need to earn a bid just like they do in the WAC or MWC. Notre Dame isn't BCS calibur any more, and neither are any of the other schools. I figure once every 50 years or so somebody might qualify - unless the Irish fire Weis.

If that's the conference Notre Dame wants, that's the conference they should get. We should cancel all basketball games with the Irish now, so they can get an early start on their new conference...

RE: Dealing with ND
What is the worst that could happen in ND was out of the BE? I can't see the B10(or any bcs conf) taking them for all sports except FB. Would ND, if they were asked to leave, join the B10 for FB in spite? Would the crowded A10 make room for them? Would ND be willing to join the Missouri valley, Horizon or Patriot? would those conferences be interested? (probably)
Would ND try to form a new conference?

Ohio State played Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl three years ago - I agree with your general sentiment in doubting that there would ever be a preordained Big Ten-ND bowl tie-in, but that definitely would be a match-up that would have a lot of demand from many bowls if that were ever agreed to.

I also agree that 7 home games is a non-negotiable item at this point. Every marquee school is making this the base minimum (heck, a few even push it up to 8 home games), so ND isn't going to budge on that front.

Then ND should find a home for their minor sports that doesn't involve The BEast...

Yeah, I was just joking.

I do think they should get rid of the BCS auto-bids and bowl tie-ins. Bowls should just invite the best teams if they don't want a playoff. That would enable some other schools to go back to being independent.

Notre Dame would have joined the Atlantic-10 in the mid-90s if the deal to get the Fighting Irish into the Big East had not gone through. They are not getting kicked out of the Big East anyway, of course, so Notre Dame not being with the Big East football schools would only mean that a split has taken place.

If a split takes place, of course, than Notre Dame would probably be in a non-football Catholic league which most likely still retains the Big East name due to having more founding members alongside Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, Villanova, Georgetown, DePaul, Marquette, and two or four expansion picks.

Which would be Xavier and St. Louis. For some reason Krocker thinks it would be Xavier and Dayton.
