per ESPN.com...

Wyoming junior running back Derek Armah has been suspended from the team indefinitely because of an alleged bar fight and scuffle with police.

Armah, a projected starter this fall, has been charged with felony interference with a police officer, said Ken Brown, chief deputy county attorney.

Armah allegedly became involved in a fight with another individual recently outside a Laramie bar, Brown said.

"In an attempt to break the fight up, the officer ... attempted to restrain the defendant who basically -- he elbowed him, he head-butted him, despite numerous commands to calm down and quit resisting,'' Brown said.

Armah posted the required 15 percent of $5,000 bond, or $750, and was released. He was ordered not to leave Albany County, to abstain from alcohol, to stay out of bars and refrain from contact with potential witnesses, the prosecutor said.

In a statement issued by the university, Koenning did not elaborate on the suspension or charges but said most Cowboy players have a "very positive history of being excellent citizens as well as outstanding students and athletes.

"We have a strict code of conduct that we expect our young men to adhere to and through the years they have done a very good job of fulfilling that responsibility.''

Barbara Burke, senior associate athletics director, said it is department policy to suspend student-athletes when charges have been filed against them.

"When the court makes its decision about Derek, we will make our final decision,'' she said.

Armah, of Lawnside, N.J., started five games as a sophomore last fall, carrying 121 times for 396 yards, second highest on the team. He also scored four touchdowns.
