Don't you think you're stating the obvious?

You would be suprised to those that didn't know that the Big East was the only BCS Conf without Saturday afternoon Network TV Coverage.

Syracuse has played on abc every year as bad as they have been, including this year, and it was a BE home game. If I am not mistaken, the BE had 4 or 5 games broadcasted on abc last season. Mattsarz can probably confirm the number

I see you can in the discussion late...we were at first discussing THIS WEEK's Saturday Games...and also referred to comment a week or 2 ago that said Big East will not have any Conf Games on ABC till the final week or 2 of the season (about a 5-6 week span).

Big East is really the only BCS Conf that sometimes has just 1 - 3 conf games being played on Saturdays...while most other BCS Conferences have 5-6 conf games that ABC/ESPN can choose to air on Saturdays.

With only 8 members...and with weeknight/Sunday games...Big East hurts their TV value to those that want to televise that BCS Conf on Saturdays.

Agreed--KnightLight was spot on.

We need to get back to getting more exposure in the 3:30pm telecast. We need to grab a few more primetime slots too...8 teams is holding us back.
OK. That's gross numbers. What are the percentage number comparisons by conference on TV exposure? That's the true measure...

While I agree that the conference is hurt by having only 8 members. I still dont see the need to add more than one member. There wouldnt be as much money brought in from adding more than that.

Actually, its TOTAL numbers that the networks are interested...as the more games you have on network and/or cable TV...generally the more $$$$$ the networks will throw at your conference.

That would be a major coup...but doesn't FOX have afternoon baseball games on Saturday afternoons in late Aug and Sept?

Maybe an afternoon Saturday spot on Fox come Oct/Nov?? (Mostly conference games).

PS. Don't see NBC dropping ND anytime soon.

BE would have to complement ND on NBC, BE plays at noon & ND at 3:30. No ND game, BE could play both spots. BE would have to increase thier inventory.
NBC could show 3 games a day with BE, ND[plus Army -Navy] & MWC at cut rate price [except ND].

I disagree with the pure total numbers argument. The MAC, C-USA, and WAC have tons of inventory but none of the major networks care. What the networks do care about are marquee programs. Short of adding a Notre Dame-type program (which is almost completely remote), at least one of the current Big East schools is going to have to develop itself to enter that realm of ND, Michigan, USC, Florida, etc., in order for the networks to take notice. The major networks aren't going to throw any more dollars for any of commonly talked about expansion candidates (UCF, Memphis, ECU) - in fact, the BE could add every single other non-BCS school in the country and it wouldn't matter. Quality (as in the marquee teams involved as opposed to whether the games are actually any good) completely overrides quantity (which is why ND has the NBC contract with only 7 games per year).

The BE needs Syc,Rutgers & Conn to take control of thier respective states & other schools are complinmetry. most games at 3:30 are regional. as far as invintory, 9 pockets is better 5 pockets

You obviously can't predict the future...and NO ONE has a clue how much a network or networks would give to an all-sports conf with the likes of Memphis (Basketball) and the ability for teams to play each other twice, which would only increase the basketball/football package combo.

PS. In regards to TOTAL NUMBERS...meant ENTIRE PACKAGE...as in reach, ratings, number of OPTIONS/Games to choose from, etc...

Bring back Temple if the BE wants televised Saturday afternoon games. Channnel 17 out of Philly (channel 4 on my cable service) carries a MAC game a 1 PM every Saturday. 04-jawdrop

Also the B-10 does not need Rutgers, Cuse, or Conn in eastern PA or western NJ for viewership. There were 5 - B-10 games on in our area today and we have not even gotten to the king pin game today with Penn State and Ohio State. The B-10 can wait until the cows come home for ND. Then they will have the Philly, NJ, and New York City market sewed with Penn St and ND. :noisycricket:

Prior to 5:00:

5-Big Ten Games including Rich Rod and Mich /Mich.St
SEC - LSU and Georgia
ACC with Wake and Miami
B-12 Texas -Ok. St
2 MAC games

ZERO - BIG EAST 03-zzz - PRETTY PATHETIC for living in the heart of the BE don't you think. 03-melodramatic 05-stirthepot :irate: :bean: 04-cheers

What Big East TV market was that?

IT MUST BE THE THURSDAY NIGHT MARKET WHEN NO ONE ELSE PLAYS OR IN WV OR SOMEPLACE ELSE BECAUSE PA, NJ, AND NY CITY BELONG TO PENN ST AND THE B10, AND ND. LIKE I SAID IN THE PREVIOUS POST THE B10 REALLY DOESN'T NEED A BE TEAM FOR THE PHILLY AND NY CITY CORRIDOR - THEY ALREADY HAVE THIS MARKET AND WILL SOLIDIFY IT BY WAITING FOR ND. BY THE WAY I JUST WATCHED PENN ST KNOCK OFF OHIO STATE, AND COULD NOT EVEN WATCH RUTGERS THUMP PITT TO DAY.

RE: ABC Coverage Map this weekend - interesting..
Temple has to prove themselves before they get any chance. They haven't yet.

TV coverage will improve when teams in The BEast have fans wanting to watch them. Win and people will want to watch. It's that simple. Nobody would want to watch WVU if they hadn't been really good for a while. Nobody wants to see a loser - or mediocrity...

Success is the only measure that comes across in the age of rank me, instead of actually determining who's best on the field. TV coverage fuels this mindset, and everyone on TV has an opinion. Of course, that opinion usually determines their alma mater, their alma mater's conference, and the conferences of foes they played to be superior to others. And since this measure is all subjective, their opinion on this subject matters.

Each week we see how much their opinion matters, as more and more "upsets" occur. In reality, these "upsets" are just games that the experts knew absolutely nothing about, since their entire knowledge of the teams involved is statistical. They don't know the teams, the players, or anything else - and their opinion matters...

It boggles the mind... 03-banghead

Sorry I got on a rant. But I had to vent - or blow... 07-coffee3
