Personal Top 20
Last year I started a thread like this. My aim was to create a top 20 where teams could jump and drop each week. This is my first attempt this year.

It should be noted that this is a strange football season because everyone keeps beating everyone else. Frankly, outside the top 10, anyone could be listed. I just went through and picked some teams.

# 1.Texas **undefeated**
# 2.Alabama **undefeated**
# 3.BYU **undefeated**
# 4.Penn St. **undefeated**
# 5.Oklahoma St. **undefeated**
# 6.Texas Tech **undefeated**
# 7.Utah **undefeated**
# 8.Oklahoma
# 9.Florida
# 10.Boise St. **undefeated**
# 11.USC
# 12.Georgia
# 13.Ball St. **undefeated**
# 14.Missouri
# 15.Virginia Tech
# 16.Tulsa **undefeated**
# 17.Michigan St.
# 18.South Florida
# 19.California
# 20.UNC

RE: Personal Top 20
I am surprised I have not received any responses.

Why?

Well, to me BYU may make a run at a BCS championship. Assuming more teams lose and BYU continues to win big, they may be the first non-BCS team that is seriously considered.

Secondly, we have a number of one lose teams. Whether you are UConn, Pittsburgh, Ohio State, etc... they may be winning but really don't seem to challenge the elite teams.

Does anyone seriously think a one lose UNC team wouldn't get hammered by Southern Cal?

Finally, the Big XII still has a number of undefeated teams. That said, the SEC is "Hell on earth" to battle through. The ACC, Pac 10, and Big East have seen better years. That could change by the end of the year.

RE: Personal Top 20
Here you go Chess. Took me a while:

1. Alabama - gets the nod, due to schedule (Clemson, Georgia road/neutral games)
2. Texas - will move into #1 if they get through their next few unscathed
3. Penn St. - sorry, JoPa, just not quite the resume of the other two
4. Oklahoma - best one-loss team; blew out good TCU, underrated Cincinnati teams
5. USC - will need a lot of dominoes to fall
6. Florida - Impressive blowout of LSU propels them
7. Oklahoma St.- schedule has been light, but win at Mizzou a good start; opportunities coming
8. Texas Tech - see above (except the Mizzou part)
9. BYU - two PAC-10 teams they beat (that people brag about) have two wins combined
10. Missouri - it doesn’t get any easier next week
11. Boise St. - they’ve actually impressed me more than the “Y”
12. Utah - no wins to really brag about, but here until they lose
13. Ball St. - see above
14. Virginia Tech - different QB, different team
15. North Carolina - remarkable rebuilding job by Butch so far
16. South Florida - still lack consistency, but perhaps their wounds are healed enough to make a run
17. Tulsa – Almost forgot them, but I’ll get excited when they play someone
18. LSU - I probably underrated them, but when you get blown out, you wait to climb back in
19. Georgia - see above
20. Ohio St. - see above

Edited to include Tulsa.

Why would anyone "seriously consider" BYU? They have played an abjectly easy schedule (Sagarin has their SOS at 121, and there are only about 120 FBS teams), and will continue to do so.

BYU and Utah will play to fill the "Hawaii slot" in the BCS and get killed 40-3 by some SEC or Big 12 power.

I disagree on getting killed. The winner of that game will put up a fight at worst. Boise could go undefeated too and have two teams crashing the party.

...Great question! I think BYU is ranked #3 because they are not just winning, they are blowing people out (except Washington).

We will see if TCU can beat BYU. TCU is a good team that should be a real test for them. BYU also ends the season with Utah. Utah looks like a good team, too.

BYU results
8/30 Northern Iowa W 41-17
9/06 @ Washington W 28-27
9/13 UCLA W 59-0
9/20 Wyoming W 44-0
10/03 @ Utah State W 34-14
10/11 New Mexico W 21-3
10/16 @ TCU 8:00 PM

It won't happen. Under BCS rules I am pretty sure they only take the top team, just like each conference gets an automatic bid. After that, it depends on who else the bowls want.
