Not anytime soon. We need to sell out the seats we have now before we can talk about expansion. Our average is on the rise though.

Did Syracuse get kicked out of the BE for poor play?

Unfortunately, it's not exactly the best time to be asking for additional money, either (from private or public funding).

RE: Average Big East attendance
WVU's attendance is suffering from offensive futility. The excitement's gone this season. At least it's been gone from the part of the season concluded to date... 03-banghead

Hopefully, the offense will find it's stride during the time off. I'm at a total loss. There is plenty of talent, and they haven't forgotten how to play. You can see it. But they keep shooting themselves in the foot with poor execution, penalties, and turnovers. The Mountaineers should be averaging more than capacity. But some folks are staying home in protest, I guess...

RE: Average Big East attendance
UC averaged just over 22,000 in 2005, just over 20,000 in 2006.

They made the significant jump to 30,246 last season.

Now - what is so special about their average attendance this season?

They have done it largely with their own fans. Last year, the attendance average was greatly influenced by the Marshall, WVU, and UofL games at Nippert. Each of those schools brought a good number of fans to the game.

This year, UC's home games have been with Eastern Kentucky (they brought the most - less than 500), Miami (OH), and Rutgers.

Nippert holds 35,000 and some change. The issue is money. UC would love to expand Nippert but the money is not there. They just spent hundreds of millions of dollars on Varsity Village. There will be no expansion until we get some major money from big donors.

There are discussions taking place on Nippert and The Shoe. Money is tight for about two more years, but they are getting info now on what to do with both.

I like where Nippert is located because it has a great campus atmoshere. How many seats can be added to the present location?

They was an initial plan that allowed for 40,000 plus seats, but the cost was $80 million or something like that. The cost to add 5,000 plus seats seemed to be not cost effective.

In addition to needing to get the money, the university refuses to cover up most of the architecture on campus (even with banners). With the campus being so tight, its also finding an expanded stadium layout that will fit AND not disturb the original intent of the surrounding architecture.

But until the money comes, neither of those latter two reasons mean much.

The Bearcat jump is significant.

Marshall did not bring that many fans (and the attendence at this game was underrorted..I bet there were 10,000 students there...that game was a see of red and black. Still WVU and Louisville both brought significant crowds.

UC has a long way to go, we should sell out Nippert every game..but Nippert has become a really good home field for the cats and the crowds are getting better and better
