Wouldn't he be in the running to be the Big 10s next commish when Delany - who is 60 - retires? Why not just wait for Delany to retire and take it from there?

The problems in the Big East are not nearly as bad as the problems in the Big 12. Not even close.

It hasn't hurt the football teams on the field.

UConn

Somebody is going to get screwed. Memphis, ECU, or UCF.

This surprised me as well. I thought he was waiting for the Big 10 gig.

There is nothing saying that being the Commissioner of the Big East would disqualify him as a successor to Delaney.
On the other hand, do we want a short-timer, who will bolt for the B-10, first chance he gets?

I'm not sure if it's fair to hold all of that against Tribble.

He couldn't help that Orsini put some huge projects into motion before he got there. He couldn't very well say "You know what, I'm going to tear down the stadium and build a 70,000 seater made out of gold!" just to leave a legacy.

Instead he was charged with finishing what was started and both facilities opened up on time. The logistics of getting used to hosting events in both facilities has gone pretty much as good as possible as well.

I have been most impressed with his selection of hires and we've seen success in those sports that he's hired a coach for himself.

I will agree with you re: Plancher and Bergman. It's hard to draw any comparisons - both situations are unique and most ADs will go through their tenure without dealing with either one or anything even close. You'd like to think it could have been handled better but there is definitely no set of instructions in a book somewhere for what to do when a player dies in practice or a coach that has the stadium named after him and is the face of the program is accused of something like Bergman was.

I think UCF fans biggest gripe will end up being that Tribble leaves without getting UCF into a BCS conference. That's not something I would ever hold against him unless there is a realignment and UCF gets left out while other non-BCS teams get in. Then he failed.

I dont think ND joining in FB would not keep the BE intact long term. The FB schools would think they won the big prize in ND. They would have the majoirty(9) instead of split 8-8 and make a move for a split. They would then keep the BE name and history and the BB schools would be S.O.L. Would a confernce with ND be attractrive enough to lure back BC and create an interest from Penn St. and UMD?

...with that said, I will give Tribble some credit, b/c while ECU's & Memphis's Athletic directors have been openly (shamelessly) courting the Big East, Tribble has been remarkably quiet, which isn't the usual standard operating procedure in east Orlando. Maybe he knows something....we don't ;^)

Two things to consider:

1. There is nothing saying he is the heir apparent for the Big 10 Commish's job.

2. Anyone who takes the BE job would probably leave for the Big 10 gig. Other than the SEC job it is probably the top of the best gig out there.

To be honest Bit.. I have not seen anything that says the BE prez are concerned about the fb scheduling mess.. yes some coaches have spoken out.. but they really dont matter.

Thats because its usually the Presidents that are last to speak out...especially if some Presidents want to "break away' from a conf that holds their current membership.

If you look at past BCS expansion/conf changes...most of the tips/leads/info in advance came from Coaches...and Presidents are not quoted much at all...till almost AFTER the final vote is cast.

Maybe the coaches should be more concerned with winning more OOC games and getting their programs more competive to challenge WVA more often for the best conference record than complaining about not enough teams.
