Time To Get Rid Of Electorial College!
Regardless on one's political persuassion it is time the US abolishes the Electorial College and have direct elections for president and vice president.

If one goes back and reads the reasons the founding fathers included this process for the election, then one will quickly discover the concerns are no longer present in modern day America for the process to continue.

If you want McCain in the job...You better hope it stays the same. Probably a good chance he loses the popular vote.

I have several things I'd like to see changed in the Constitution...the Electoral College isn't one of them. Id prefer term limits be the first. These career thieves are killing us.05-stirthepot

I thought some pretty good points were made for keeping the EC after the 2000 election.

I'd prefer to get rid of the direct election of senators & try to restore some of the indended federalism to our government.

The problem I have with the Electoral College is that in most races, my vote in the state of Louisiana means absolutely nothing. Both candidates have a presence here, but there are no campaign stops, no ads on local television, no ads in the newspapers, nothing. It's almost like to them, we do not exist as far as this election is concerned. The only states that seem to matter are the so-called "battleground" states.

So you're in favor of the ever increasing consilidation of power in the hands of the federal government?

and that would change without the electoral college? The larger populated states would still be the "battlegrounds". As split as America is today...EVERY state is important.

Yeah, I'm thinking no. I actually like Georgia being represented.

Of course not, that has been shown to be an impossibility of any government ever conceived. It is the inherent nature of all governments to "centralize" and increase power...Those in search of power will always find a way to subvert any system that seeks to limit their power. Granted....our original concept was the best attempt thus far.

Where would you suggest we go from here to achieve a system that couldn't be centralized by the power hungry as we have today? Yes..I'm very cynical.
