Question Is there a team in the BE this year that can win a BCS bowl
It looking like a down season for the Big East and our current #1 team is a squad that lost to Bowling Green of the Mac at Home. Beside maybe USF is any team that can actaully beat a Florida,Alabama,Mizzou,Texas Tech, etc in this conference this season. Can you imagine Pittsburgh playing Alabama in the Suger Bowl that would be ugly and set the conference back.

You never know how it would play out. You look at Bama and they have played outstanding but just this past week they barely got by Kentucky at home.
More than probably the BE champ will face the ACC champ and in that case I give Pitt,USF,Cincy, WV at least a 50-50 shot.

When I say BCS bowl I mean against a quality BCS champion you know the Big 12 and SEC the conferences that play for and win championships. If Pitt win the Big East and get Alabama/LSU/UGA in Suger bowl, if I were a Pitt fan I would be nervous that is all. I think only USF right now has the team capable of beating a BCS bowl team from the Big 12 or SEC

Well you know those games are a crap shot. Who will show up? Did many think that Boise was going to beat Oklahoma?

Look at some of those BCS bowls including the NC, they end up being blow outs. The Big East is having a bad year no doubt and winning in the BCS bowl might temper the talk but we will be in this boat every year.

RE: Is there a team in the BE this year that can win a BCS bowl
I've seen most of the BE teams play. Pitt appears to be the best team at the moment. I told a UNC fan that works for me, that UNC would beat UConn by at least 2 tds before the game, since UConn was so one dimensional. Cincy appears to be pretty decent. With it's speed, USF is the type team that when it's playing it's A game can beat about any team in the country. I still think USF wins the BE this year, but the Bulls sure did play poorly the second half last year, so who knows?

I can't remember how many times I've seen teams that couldn't lose do exactly that. Oklahoma last year in the Fiesta Bowl comes to mind. Georgia in the 2006 Sugar Bowl comes to mind. Who knows what will happen come January?

Depends on who you draw and who the team is

IMO, Pitt is getting better and better, and WV and USF are still good teams

With Tex, BYU, Ala, OhioSt & ND looking like at-large teams, BE is rock solid lock to be in the Orange bowl

Dont jump the gun.
Notre Dame will NOT be an at-large team. They need 9 wins to qualify. They need FIVE more
They have left:
At: North Carolina
At: Washington
Pitt
At: BC
At:Navy
Syracuse
At:USC
I dont see five wins there

I think Big12 will have two slots: Tex,Oklahoma,Texas Tech or Mizzou.
The SEC will have two slots: LSU-Georgia,Alabama,Florida
The PacTen will have ONE: USC
ACC- Will have ONE
Big East will have ONE
BigTen- Could have two; Penn State- Ohio state
nonBCS will have ONE
If Ohio State loses to PSU and someoneelse then it opens the way for a two loss team from BE/ACC/PacTen

If the big-10 doesn't get 2, that could open a spot for 2nd non-BCS, BYU-Utah loser if both are udeafted going into game or undeafted Boise St.
As for ND, 2 toughest game appear to be At NC & USC, Wash & Syc are proablly wins. It will come down to sweeping Pitt, BC & Navy. ND loses one of these games & Gator bowl is gone.

RE: Is there a team in the BE this year that can win a BCS bowl
Would be interesting if the non-BCS gets two teams selected. Of course, I only think that happens if there are no eligible teams from BCS conferences/ND.

It's hard to predict what will be the picks this year but the Orange bowl will go last (I think it's safe to assume at this point that the ACC does not get a team to the MNC) and my guess is that Cuban will be right - they would select the BE.

As a side note - I'm sure this has been already posted but what is the Gator Bowl rule with ND? Does ND have to be within 1 win to be selected or can they be selected if they are just bowl eligible?

The SEC will not get 2 bids, unless a lot happens this year. There are too many good teams in the SEC, and they'll end up knocking each other out of the hunt.

any team can win a bcs bowl game... first off you have a month long layoff.. an average team can come in hot.. while a good team comes in rusty.. and average wins.. You can have a much lesser team thats excited to be there.. vs a team who just misses out on nat champ game.. and isn't ready to play.. then there is bad weather.. just a good day vs bad. 1 game is always a crapshoot..

Everyone is so quick to state emphatically that this or that can't be done. That's why so many impossible things get done... 07-coffee3

I'm guessing we've haven't learned a thing from the past 3 years and suddenly jumping ship when it appears that WVU isn't looking too hot and USF loses to Pitt which lost to BGSU. 01-wingedeagle

My guess will be is if Oklahoma plays for the N.C. Then the Big East winner could be in the Fiesta to take on BYU or Utah.

bit
Theyll knock each other off BUT the bowls will take an extra one. Theyll have two teams 9-3 or better and theyll be chosen

My Article for the Bearcat Rivals site (Bearcat Lair)...is a direct response to this skepticism for the Big East that is going on again this year,
