aginst BCS competition since 1992! Tough, heartbreaking loss. Cannot give game away on a facemask penalty (did anyone actually see it?), and then a 46-yard scamper with under a minute to go in the game! Yes, Dan got picked, but only one was legit (the first was after a "hit" on Dan that resulted in seven), but still, this defense continues to disappoint. No doubt about it, Mr. Banks, your ass in on the line!
What does all of this translate into next week (and the week after)? My guess is, an under 20K crowd for Buffalo and Temple. I'm having real reservations (no pun intended) about our away games with NIU and Toledo.

Probably the best CMU's defense has looked all year and the secondary showed some real promise for the future. Poor kick coverage and stupid penalties were the downfall. Dan and Brian Anderson were also a bit out of sync, 2 potential scoring plays that were just that close. If CMU makes those plays and the Antonio Brown play at the end of the first half and this is a BSU/IU type route of Purdue.

Unfortunately, yes, and it was a little past incidental contact. It was at least the 3rd facemask penalty against us in the game. At least that kind of mistake is correctable.
Despite the last Purdue TD, the defense definitely made strides on Saturday. Purdue was held to 83 yards rushing overall after running for big yardage against Oregon, and we held the Boilers under 400 yards of total offense. Williams made freshman mistakes (PI, facemask, just missed a pick and gave up a big pass play), but he also got our first interception of the season.
I have to believe Purdue's receivers are slightly better than Buffalo's as a group. The key will be consistent pressure on their solid QB, Willey, because he is accurate when given time.
Offensively, I'm looking for us to be a little sharper this week. If Buffalo holds us under 35 points, I will be truly surprised.

Thanks, CMF. I also noticed our offensive line's erratic play, sometimes giving Dan plenty of time, and still others, getting the piss beat out of them physically and speed-wise. Everyone I know here in Madison, that watched the game, said CMU was the better team.

I thought all "D" looked much better I almost did not recognize it.
The O-line certainly did have a very up and down day, great at times and flat out sucked at times.
Another thing that stood out to me was Sneed, he ran hard again.
Not sure face mask penalities are correctable, probaby a result of being out of position or fatique, and reaching. I am sure we are teaching are guys to grab a face mask, but with the new rule if you do it is an automatic 15.
Kudo's to BJ for going for two.

I have to say, I was impressed with Jones' intensity on the sidelines and his ballsy call for two points --- most of my friends were impressed as well. I would have like to have seen him get in his defensive player's faces BEFORE they gave up the winning TD.
