How is this not a safety?
According to B12 refs, this was not a safety.

RE: How is this not a safety?
my point is stop whining about calls when Uconn got its fair share or should I say unfair calls last year. At least this safety didn't end up deciding the game.

UCONN got so lucky on so many crazy calls last year.

You guys need to chill out and start winning football games convincingly...good for you that you can beat Temple, Baylor, and Virginia.

RE: How is this not a safety?
Forget last year...why are we still arguing about UCONN's "luck" last year?????? Last night UCONN got screwed BIG time on the none safety call and also on the "late hit" that was int.

The game wouldn't have been as close if the refs flippin called those two plays correctly.......

UCONN is tough, gritty, and doesn't beat themselves....I am NOT looking foward to our game at the Rent this year....I'm calling for a loss for the Cats this time around.

RE: How is this not a safety?
I would have called it a safety, but the officials gave him his "forward progress" at the 1/2 yrd line. It depends on your interpretation of the rule. If it was a QB sneak they always give them the forward progress before they are pushed back. I personally thought the QB gave ground in an attempt to evade the defender which would be a safety. But I understand the refs interpretation of the rule.

Well there were BE replay officials and they still called is as not being a safety, I thought it was a safety but the field crew (a mix of Big 12, MWC, and WAC) and the replay crew (Big East) both ruled it as not being a safety.

Because when he intially was tackled he was at the 1 foot line. His forward progress was over the goal line, even though he was pushed back into endzone. That's why.

RE: How is this not a safety?
First of all, this game has nothing to do with any previous games or whatever. For those people that keep bring the old UL game up, now watch this video and let's put that to rest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5e-txWErsU

As for this Baylor game. The refs made some really really bad calls that could easily be momentum changers.

1. That "late" hit on the QB by Butler was a joke. That was not a late hit. Not only it took away an INT from UCONN with Baylor inside UCONN's red zone, it also led to a Baylor TD because they gave additional 15 yards to Baylor.

2. That Safety call was bad.

3. UCONN took the ball away from Baylor punt record at end of the 1st half. It was a clear strip but they gave the ball to Baylor therefore denying UCONN's ability to kick a FG and end of the 1st half.

There weren't any clear make up calls going the other way. It was bad officiating. Of course, the irony is the official on the field is the son of the same official Houchili who made that non fumble call at end of the Denver/Chargers game.
