Why is it that we praise Wagers for his work with the defense, but then criticize the defense because of their play in the zone?

I said 'probably' run him off. Why? Although they gave the kid a scholarship, he clearly hasn't developed. He even laughed after a critical TO last night. Look, some guys just don't work out although they looked good coming in. It happens. He's a bad fit, maybe a bad seed even.

Doctor: I think he's grasping @ straws because he has a young team w/ no leadership. But at the same time, this team has some very strong wins: Charleston, Arkansas, and blowout win over Jacksonville who was the preseason favorite in the league. They can play better. But I know anything positive that happens is the player's performance, and anything negative is the coach's fault, correct? That's the logic. He recruited the players of course and he coaches them, and I think he during a game he does some good things and some bad things strategically. But I remember people screaming on here about Bartow pulling the redshirt off of Hubbard last year and how big a mistake that was, yet, it seemed like a pretty good move once we won the league tournament. You have to give him credit where it's due, but on the other hand, he's made plenty of mistakes too. Thus, he's ok.

The good is he's a good recruiter, he pulled a team out of a nose dive last year (although I realize maybe they shouldn't have been there in the first place, but at least he did get them to play better), and his winning pct is solid. Yes, the league is not as strong as the SoCon, but it's not as weak as you guys try to think it is to support your anti-football rants. He's never proven to me he's a great coach, and ETSU has had better, but ETSU has had plenty that were way worse.

My only criticism of the defense is what I see to now be a complete reliance on this "new" zone defense. Wagers did and continues to do a great job of implementing defensive schemes and getting the players to buy in and work hard on defense. Implementation and motivation are only part of the equation though. If we don't run the right defense at the right time, against the right opponent it won't matter how good the implementation is or how motivated guys are. I liken it to playing defense on 3rd and 11 with 4 LBs when your opponent has sent out 4 or 5 WRs.

It seems to me that ETSU has turned it back on the style of defense that was the staple of last years team. So the question becomes was that decision Bartow's call or Wagers call. Even with that, defense is not THE major problem right now. I can b**** and moan all night about the defense but the bottom line is they've held all but one opponent at or well under 70pts. I still have my concerns about the defense, but those concerns pale in comparison to other issues like the lack of offense, the pitiful rotation, the destruction of the "run and gun", the lack of effective inbound plays, etc.

Everybody knows. Geesh. Does ETSU still play basketball? I can't remember the last time I've seen them in a paper or mentioned on tv.

Do they lost to belmont? Tell me they didn't play milligan again this year.

Houston... we have a problem. When you hear the attitude that Kevster has concerning ETSU...that's a huge red flag. There are indications that his attitude is prevalent and wide spread. The attitude is a cancer growing on the athletic department. It's based on the lie that was told all Bucs when the school quit, waved the white flag over football.

I implore the school to address this immediately...but they won't because they won't even admit their is a problem. After-all, the Bucs are now in a better conference...(you can quit laughing). What is really sick is no one is challenging the sports editor of the school newspaper when she stated football will never come back.

ETSU is in trouble. Rest on the laurels of the med and pharmacy school...but your athletic department is critical in the assessment of what kind of school you have. Playing before crowds of under a thousand makes ETSU appear as a glorified high school.

The president hoped other schools would follow his decision to quit football. They didn't. It's painful to talk to other schools and hear them say...I'm sure glad we didn't quit.
