WAC Signs ESPN tv Deal
"As part of the agreement that runs through the spring of 2017, over 300 regular season WAC contests and 45 championship events will be aired on the ESPN networks.
Football: Double the number of games per year from eight to a minimum of 16 with at least 10 on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2 and at least six on ESPNU. A minimum of nine games will be conference contests with an average of five on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2. Every school will appear at least once on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.
Men’s Basketball: Quadruple the number of games per year with a minimum of six regular season games each year on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2 (three must be conference games). The conference championship game and one semifinal will also be shown on one of the three networks. A minimum of six regular season games each year on ESPNU plus one quarterfinal game from the tournament. Every school will appear at least once on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.
Women’s Sports: Six regular season events (volleyball, basketball or softball) this year, seven next year and eight in 2010-11. The volleyball and women’s basketball championships will be aired on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU."

RE: WAC Signs ESPN tv Deal
Some things still up in the air:
1. It's not determined whether the WAC will play basketball on a specific night (i.e. Big Monday).
2. It's still not determined what the "inconvenience fee" will be.

I don't believe there is one in the new deal. The WAC will probably give extra money for inconvenienced teams during the revenue distribution phase.

Any word on the official financial aspects. I've heard rumors of $4 million per year, but I haven't seen anything official.
All in all good news. I think that this will help some of the struggling programs (like USU football) improve with more $$$ and TV appearances. I also think it will bring the level of basketball back up after a flop last year.

The Hawaii reporter that leaked the info about a month before the signing said the deal was worth $4.1 mil per year. No confirmation or leaks since then. It's amazing how the WAC has kept the final figures under wraps.

For the 4 of us whom are here: Any word on which WAC basketball games will be on ESPN this year?
I don't think we've been on yet, but should be getting a minimum of 6 on ESPN, ESPN2, and a minimum of 6 on ESPNU.

According to ESPN's USU page found here we have 6 games on ESPN Fullcourt. So far, nothing on the non pay-per-view networks. I think we usually get a bracketbuster game televised. I wonder what the holdup is?

Does your contract with Altitude Sports include basketball as well?

Our WAC bball contract doesn't take place until next year...we will probably just have our normal 2 games + conference championship and bracket buster this year...

With the ESPN rift now behind the WAC, is anybody paying much attention to how ESPN's GamePlan, Full Court and ESPN 360 is/has affected the WAC?

So far, ESPNU has only picked up one WAC game (Utah vs. SJSU).
They still owe the WAC a minimum of 5 more games on the U. Wonder what's taking so long to select the games?

RE: WAC Signs ESPN tv Deal
Anybody keeping track of how many more games ESPNU owes the WAC? Or have they met there obligation?
