panite Wrote:Congratualtions on a great season thus far. You are having the type of season the BE enjoyed the last couple of years when they needed it to right their ship after the raid. The BE had 3 to 4 teams in the top 25 then too. The great part about that was that it was at the expense of the ACC at that time as they seemed to have imploded with their marquee teams tanking aka Miami and Florida St. Swafford bet the farm on that connection to carry the ACC like Ohio St and Michigan in the B-10, LSU and Florida in the SEC, and Texas and Oklahoma in the B-12. Instead the ACC has shown more balance across the board with Wake having a revival and now NC under Butch Davis. Also Florida St is starting their comeback at this time too.
I believe your top teams all have to play each other yet so the MWC can only end up with one undefeated team if they get one at all as any of the top teams can knock each other off which is similar to the BE and the ACC at this time. Good luck on the finish and maybe the MWC and WAC can be represented in a BCS bowl this year. Boise has the upper hand at this time as their remaining schedule favors them. By the way I enjoy catching your games on late night TV back East with the time difference. Its a great way to finish a Saturday with FB if I am too busy with work or family stuff, or if I am off catching a BE, Penn St / B-10, Academy, Maryland / ACC or South Carolina / SEC game.
The teams moved up a little more this week;
Coaches Poll
#9 Utah
#11 TCU
#16 BYU
AP Poll
#10 Utah
#11 TCU
#17 BYU
Harris Poll
#9 Utah
#12 TCU
#16 BYU
BC$ Poll
#8 Utah
#12 TCU
#15 BYU
So the computer seem to be helping both Utah and BYU and TCU seems to not be hurt either.
BYU and TCU have played already and on Thursday TCU @Utah square off against each other. Then on November 22 the BYU @Utah game (Holy War) will be played.
Last year the MWC was close;
BYU was 11-2 (8-0)
Air Force 9-4 (6-2)
Utah 9-4 (5-3)
New Mexico 9-4 (5-3)
TCU 8-5 (4-4)
But this year the top teams did a little better OOC which really helped in turning the corner as far as ranked teams.
Utah 9-0 (5-0)
TCU 9-1 (6-0)
BYU 8-1 (4-1)
Air Force 7-2 (4-1)
Air Force I'm sure would love have another crack at Navy... Navy blocked 2 of Air Forces punts for TD's and Air Force ended up loosing by 6...
TCU lost to then #1 Oklahoma in Norman which I will not hold that against them.
But if Air Force could have beat Navy the MWC may have been able to have 4 teams ranked right now. That was something I did not really think was possible for a non-Big 6 conference.
IMO, the future could be bright next year also... Just look at the returning QB's for MWC teams...
MWC QB's that have started this year per team:
Air Force- Tim Jefferson; Fr / Shea Smith; Sr
BYU- **Max Hall; Jr
Colorado St- Billy Farris; Sr
New Mexico- **Donovan Porterie; Jr / Brad Gruner; Fr
San Diego St- Ryan Lindley; Fr / Drew Westling; Jr
TCU- **Andy Dalton; So
UNLV- Omar Clayton; So / Mike Clausen; Fr (will start now with Clayton injuried)
Utah- **Brian Johnson; Sr
Wyoming- **Karsten Sween; Jr / Dax Crum; So / Chris Stutzriem; Fr
** - Started in 2007
MWC Sr QB's:
At Air Force Shea Smith started the season starting, but has since lost the job to Fr. Tim Jefferson.
At Colorado St Billy Farris has held off the young Fr Klay Kubiak, but young Klay has got some meaningful playing time this year (whole 2nd half of the 13-7 TCU game, instead of Farris).
At Utah Brian Johnson is a much better passer that So Corbin Louks, but Corbin is very fast and mobile is fact he is the 3rd leading rusher on Utah's team.
