RE: Preseason Sagarin Rankings
Who programmed that computer? Only 2 BEasts in the top 30, and UofL ranked #15? I've always said that computers are stupid, and will do anything they're told to do, no matter how dumb it is. This just confirms it.

RE: Preseason Sagarin Rankings
Sagarin's numbers are worthless until after the 4th game of the season. By then he has real data to plug into the formula.

to have any kind of ratings before any of these schools even play a game is just plain stupid. non of these teams have played a single down, Its just made up mumbo jumbo at this point.

RE: Preseason Sagarin Rankings
If you look at the Sagarin rankings of the various teams and conference it would appear the UC would have been ranked 5th in the Big Ten behind OSU, Penn St Michigan and Wisconsin. UC would be close to 4th. The Big Ten relationship with the MAC and there OOC scheduling is hurting there Sargarin rankings for schedule strenth c conferences.

I think the sagarin rankings are pretty accurate overall. The problem is when one number is a little off people just write the whole thing off and say its stupid.

RE: Preseason Sagarin Rankings
With WVU, UofL and Rutgers at the top of the list, it seems like the computer was programed with numbers from two years ago and not last year's numbers.
I think you can honestly dismiss these numbers as useless.
If they could have only gone back ten years then maybe even Syracuse could have seen some love.
For the ACC: Sagarin has VT and BC at the top. Somebody needs to tell the computers that Matt Ryan is now playing pro ball. And oh yea, LSU and FLorida are ahead of Georgia. By all accounts UGA is the SEC team to beat this year but I guess the computer like the idea that Fla. and LSU both have recent titles. COmputers- go figure- what do they know?

The problem is ranking teams before they've even played a game, or set their starting lineups...

Yes :iagree: If you rank them based on achievement, then they should, in theory, all have the same pre-season ranking.

RE: Preseason Sagarin Rankings
Whats wrong with this picture I'm agreeing with everything Bit is saying today. All preseason polls are stupid. To base everything on last years acheivements is stupid. And people actually complain that their team isn't ranked high enough or some team isn't deserving the spot. Lets play a few games before there are rankings. I guess Spurrier got tired of ranking Duke in the first poll.

We're going to spank the hell out of them sissies from Buffalo (I hope). Robinson needs to schedule Duke so he can have a season.

I hope you're both right about being better than expectations. The better your teams are, the better it is for the conference as a whole.
However, I think froggy's statement there is the one that best fits this line of thought. We'll see who's right soon enough.
Good luck on your seasons...
Don't get your hopes up too far though, especially when you face the Mountaineers. We'll have to beat 'em down...
