We'd take a HUGE jump if we can somehow take out OU in Norman!!!

If we lose that game then we should go into conference at 4-1 and I would think a couple BE wins to push us to 6-1 would get us back into the Top 25.....

Heisman contender at RB and a great improvement in the QB situation. Last year we had Bill Stull and a RFr & True Fr backing him up. When he went down in game 1 we were in trouble. This year, we have Stull back and those two have playing time under their belt.

Also our D was top 5 and almost everyone is back. The Brawl last year served notice that the young team was maturing.

RE: 3 BE teams in new AP poll
Pitt is ranked because they are loaded with 4 and 5 star players who should be coming into their own and they ended last season beating WVA.....I'm not against Pitt being ranked. In fact the MORE BE teams ranked, the better. I wish UC, RU, and UCONN were ranked as well.....

as usual pre-season rankings mean nothing....it's more a respect-o-meter to gauge your program by...sans Notre Dame.

Kansas is waaaaaaaaaay overrated.....look at their schedule last year, they really didn't beat many good teams and had a light B12 schedule. I think they go into USF and get HAMMERED! Which is perfect for USF and the BE....highly ranked B12 team getting throttled by BE!

The biggest reason Pitt is ranked, and UC or UConn isn't, is because most people are too stupid to realize that Wanny can't coach a team to be better than mediocre. They also can't realize that Kelly and Edsell are good coaches, unlike Wannstedt.

It has nothing to do with the players. If it was all up to the players, and talent recruited, Pitt would have dominated The BEast from the get go.

The Bearcats have the same opportunity to make a statement as USF did last year when it played and defeated Auburn on the road last year.

True but Auburn wasn't ranked Top 5 when you played them. OU is an early favorite for the national title game so this game is goinig to be against a far better team then Auburn was when you beat them last year...and that's not downgrading your win...your win vs Auburn was still a GOOD SEC team on the road and I LOVED it. Just saying, this would be a bigger win than that one....and of course, tougher to do as well. Go Cats!

My point was that beating a 'name' team on the road would be HUGE for UC and the BigEast. It's a chance to make a statement. The fact that its a Top5 contender is just gravy.

What make you think Stull is any good? What has he ever done, besides not being a freshman like the other qb last year. There was talk last year that bostick would beat him out (before stull got hurt), and we saw how good bostick was.

This Sooner team is the very same team the Mountaineers ran all over. Actually, it isn't. This game will be early in the season. WVU caught them in late season form, when a team is supposed to be its best.

UC's offense is just as effective at moving the ball. If their QB play comes through, I bet the Bearcats win.

I don't think the Big 12 runs the same kind of spread us folks in The BEast do. The Sooners found that out last January... 04-cheers

i don't think this is true at all, stull convincingly beat out bostick even though bostic was a december graduate and was at spring practice, it's a tall order to ask for a true freshman to play immediately at qb even a highly touted one. pitt had some major injury problems last year including stull, kinder, pinkston, etc. and still they were a few tough losses from being 7-5 (the navy and michigan st game come to mind).

yea...same team a year later......supposedly has the best D and O lines in the nation. Bill King on Rivals radio has them as one of a handful of teams that in his opinion, will be in the title game.

I think Pitt could be the sleeper in the conf this year. they def have the talent.. only question is can wanny coach the sideline well enough to win with it. On paper they are a very good team.

Pitt has a question mark at the QB position. People forget that although they spoiled the Mountaineers opportunity to play for a national title, they were completely inert on offense. The conference has too many great coaching minds to allow Pitt to beat the soley with a running game.

It will be interesting to see what happens this year in Pittsburgh.

Bostick didn't enroll early. His High School graduation was in January after the start of classes at Pitt, so he wasn't able to be part of spring practices. He was a true freshman with 6 weeks of college practice under his belt when he took his first snap. Pat played fairly well for a kid with no experience. His time last year will help him a ton this season. His major problem last year was turnovers. If we just clean up the turnovers we should win 3 more than we did last season. Pat gotten into college FB shape and his lumps last year will help him in the future.

Billy Stull is no slouch. He if I remember correctly he won a state title and set all kinds of passing records for his division in High School.

Pitt has had talent at some positions and been thin at others. This season we finally have good depth across the board and should be able to sustain a few injuries without leaving a gaping hole in our lineup.

In the first few weeks last year we lost our best receiver (Kinder) our starting QB (Stull) one of our best DL (Mustakis), and our back up tackle (Pinkston), We had good luck on the OL and Pinkston wasn't a huge loss and we are deep enough at DL that we could cover Mustakis. Imagine how many yards McCoy would have run for if we had a credible passing game to keep defenses honest.

my bad, i do know he did go back home during training camp for a few days, which made a lot of pitt fans uneasy. flacco transferring also hurt pitt's qb transition although it ended up being a smart move on his part.

Imagine what Pitt would have done last year with Flacco throwing the ball and McCoy running it.
