It must be a monstrous contract revenue wise for the SEC to tie themselves up for 15 years like that. It must take into consideration inflation and everything else under the sun.

No wonder high ranking SEC officials said a few weeks ago that the SEC had no plans to expand anytime soon and that there is a chance they will never expand. They are getting PAID!

You got to pay the cost to get the boss, and as long as the SEC is the big dog they can command the revenue... 07-coffee3

That's what having a large fanbase can do for a successful conference. If we play this right, we can catch up to them. All we need to do is stick together, and let the rest of the nation see our brand of football.

We have to increase those fan bases in the right places.

Agreed. That's why I pushed for schools like East Carolina. I know people don't want the Big East to become "C-USA-lite" but East Carolina has a huge fan base and a strong football tradition. That's why I think the Big East should expand to 9 or 10 teams, even if it cuts into revenue. We need to shake off the image of being a small conference. Granted it helped us get some very lucrative television deals but we have to expand our fan base in football. The teams in the Big East right now have growing fan bases so expand and add to that fan base.

Will the CBS deal with the SEC free up slots for the BE teams on ESPN? It would be great for the BE to be featured on ESPN/ESPN2

Nope. It sounds like ESPN will still have the primetime games and that could be announced in the next few weeks.

ESPN will still show SEC games. The CBS deal gets first choice, but ESPN is free to pick up any other game they like... 07-coffee3

Memphis, and the surrounding area currently has essentially no interest in the Big East. Add the Tigers and that changes dramatically. I am sure the same goes for ECU.

I don't think a split would give either side much of a drop off. All it would do is give more teams a shot at making the dance.

You will never catch the SEC, the stadiums in the Big East are too small. Big stadium = BIG EXCITEMENT = BIG REVENUE = BIG TV MARKET.

Blah, blah, blah, bring on the big bad SEC!

Seems to me, any conference having Syracuse, UConn, Pitt, West Virginia, Louisville, Cincy and Memphis (among others) would be a very big dog in basketball.

You could both be wrong. You never know what the future holds. Wait about 30 years or so and you'll see what I mean...

And that just ticks off ACC fans and officials to no end. Oh, that's right, they expanded to try and be like the Pac-10! That's why modeled themselves after the SEC and added a championship game, to be like the Pac-10 (who doesn't have a championship game). If they wanted to be like the Pac-10 they would have added one team and expanded to 10 (just like the Pac-10) and not added a championship game (just like the Pac-10).
