Team hits the floor this Sunday
Got this from an article in the JC Press about soccer. The basketball tidbit was at the bottom.

The men’s basketball team returns to campus this weekend to begin practice for its Labor Day trip to Canada.

The Bucs get 10 extra days to prepare their four-game exhibition tour in the Toronto area. Only returning players will be able to practice until school starts on Aug. 25. The team’s five newcomers may then take part.

The first practice will be Sunday afternoon.

RE: Team hits the floor this Sunday
Let's not gloss over this soccer thing.

I'm told the Blue-Gold soccer game will be kicking off in a few days at 7 p.m.

Now, am I missing something? I thought soccer games had two 45 minute halves. Assuming they have a 10-minute halftime (probably more than that) and no extra time- that means the game will end in darkness.

They are literally two years late in building that facility. And yet no heads are rolling!

Would be nice if someone from the local media traveled with them on this tour and wrote back on how things were going, rather than one article summarizing how they did when the team gets back.

88- Agreed.

But welcome to mid-size newspaper budgets in 2008.

This one isn't the fault of the staff- it's the fault of the numbers crunchers above.

Interesting that the newcomers cannot practice until the 25th. I'm really excited to see what this team will look like. I wonder if they'll be coverage of the tournament? All players should get plenty of time; I wonder which of the newcomers will step up.

The hope is that by playing in the dark the 50 people that might show up who AREN'T IN ANY WAY AFFILIATED with the athletic department won't see how bad the communist kickball team will be.
I'm glad basketball gets some extra time on the floor, that's a good thing.

Kev, obviously you are confused.

Don't you know anything about winning the right way ?

Open the 1 page handbook about that and read where you must watch soccer over football. Especially in the south, "football" means soccer not that pigskin stuff. It's tradition.

It's why we are blue, not blue and gold anymore.

Yeah, we are blue oh right. Feeling and singing em.

Everyone's getting out of hand again looking for an issue with this "Blue" theme. The gold is still obviously a color in the department, just as yellow is still in the colors at Michigan, but look at their banner when the team hits the field for football, it says "Go Blue" I believe.

The predominant color for the Bucs has been blue with the trim gold. Most shirts and merchandise are blue. This isn't that big a deal.

It is a big deal. It is a bunch of crap marketing to try and whisk away the real problems of the department away.

Which won't work.

You've just got to understand, 02, if you want to believe every bit of bad PR that comes from the mouth of ETSU, you ain't gonna be long for this board.

Barring any injuries, these early games will only help this team get ready and get some chemistry. I'm glad they are playing in this.

RE: Team hits the floor this Sunday
This may sound crazy, but I hope they treat these games like the NFL Preseason, playing everyone on the roster, getting a good look at everyone in game situations, while working on things that we weren't very good at last year. Wins and losses here really don't matter.
