Jobs available In memphis?
Hi fellow Tiger fans . I was wondering if anyone knows of any jobs available in Memphis? I have a associate degree in Hotel/Motel management . I currently work at a hotel and I'm getting tired of it . I am only working 3 days for the last few weeks and if anyone can tell me of any jobs or at least try and give me some ideas . I would appreciate it . Thanks. Go Tigers.

I just landed a job about a month ago at the Memphis Motorsports Park. I got really lucky has they hired several new employees.I was the only one from the Memphis area that got hired out of all the newbys. I was fortunate. Keep looking, something will come up.

You're not giving us much to go on. So are you tired of your specific hotel or tired of working for hotels?

What kind of job are you looking for? There are thousands of different kinds of jobs out there, so saying "any jobs out there" won't help much. yeah, there are jobs out there. I searched on the Commercial Appeal website for jobs this morning and it brought back 1,022 postings.

I don't know if anyone here would be able to provide help or not, but give us a little more and you never know.

To say there aren't any jobs here is a huge lie. I skimmed through the CA Careers section Sunday and there were tons --- and these are from companies willing to pay good money to place an ad. Maybe not the exact job you want or what not, but there are plenty of jobs out there.

My advice to folks looking for jobs is always the same. You are not looking for lots of jobs. You are looking for one job.

As the owner of a small business which only has 3 total employees, I don't have a job to offer. I can offer you this advice:

>Do a good resume. Keep it short and sweet. I still prefer a one-pager, but two is OK if you have enough content to need that. With computers, you can tailor each resume to the available job, too.
>Make personal contact at your target employer. Find out a name and address letters and phone calls to a specific person.
> Be enthusiastic. You have to let the prospective employer know that you would be excited to work for them.

Good luck.

A one pager might be what you prefer, but more and more HR people and recruiters are going in the opposite direction with their beliefs.

I would say if it goes to Page 3, it had either be a CV or a damn good resume, but less and less people see anything wrong with 2 good pages.

more than one page is the trend in corporate america.

if you walk in with a one page resume, you have got "entry-level" stamped all across your forehead.

It depends what's on that one page.

My resume goes two pages, but I have been in the workforce since 1966. I still keep it current, in case a customer wants a copy. Unless you have had 5 or 6 pertinent jobs, don't BS your way to fill up 2 or more pages. When I started my own business, I volunteered to get downsized from a Fortune 500 company. They sent me to a professional "career transition" company as part of the buyout. Their professional writers told me the same thing. Keep it short and meaty. Remove the "fluff".

I have written numerous resumes for folks over the years, and I do know what makes a good one, plus having worked for some top-of-the line corporations.

One page doesn't mean you're entry You're only suppose to have a two page resume if you have over 10 years experience.

Like this is big news, avoid anything to do with banking, financial and trucking. Those jobs are very un-secure right now. Don't be afraid of any position. Now you may not be interested but your degree and experience could land you a job down at Tunica but then you have that drive.

Retail management would be something that your background could get you into if you're interested in anything like that. Places like Office Depot can always use someone who's got a good head on their shoulders and knows just a tad about customer service because most retail places now can't spell customer service much less deliver it.

I was on duty at the Nascar Truck Race and I think I'm supposed to go to a meeting soon about the NHRA races and should be out there for at least some of those days. There's one Saturday in October that promises to be hectic because we have the Nationwide Series in the afternoon and a Tiger Football game that night.

Retail is love or hate. I love it. Been working in retail since I was 7.
