It's going to really suck to be Aaron Rodgers in the 2008 season. The guy has done nothing wrong, and before he's even had a chance to play one down as the Packers' starting quarterback, he's been villified by Packer fans.

Nothing short of the Packers repeating exactly what they did last season, or going even further, will get Rodgers out of this shadow he's been thrown into.

That's probably true, which demonstrates the absurd irrationality of fans. Even Favre likely couldn't be expected to duplicate a 13-3 record. Although based on the reception at the Packer "owners" mtg, there will be plenty of fans who will support Rodgers. With how good the Vikings likely will be, their wild card is also their qb, and the schedule the Pack face, a 9-10 win season should be viewed as a reasonable success.

uh, excuse me...i'm a Packer fan...we try to make at LEAST 1 game a year...i think Brett's acting like a child, and needs to decide what he wants to do, and stick with it...Aaron Rogers has been great through the whole thing, and i'm glad to see the Packers management has his back.

not ALL Green Bay fans will be mad at Aaron.

This is a message board... not a forum... you typed that as if we were on the sports reporters and you just had to get your 2 cents in.

I'll say the packers have a running game, good receivers, decent corners... if they at least make the playoffs that'll be good. But as high as A.R. was drafted and has sat behind #4, he should be good n ready to go next month, but as i've already forestated.... when he screws up, he'll hear it from the fans.

I'm still intrigued by something, and i'll ask the 1 game a year GBP fan: If the management didn't want B.F. & didn't think he was good enough to play in G.B. ........ why didn't they allow him to go to Minn or Chi-Town ???? 05-stirthepot

Because what may not be good enough for GB may still be a drastic improvement for another team. Why help improve a team in your own division? Unless they give you something worthwhile in return. The argument that "if we don't want him then we'll just give him to whoever and it doesn't matter" is flawed. I don't understand what's so confusing about not trading him to Minn or Chicago, even if they don't want him in GB. Someone please help me understand the point of that argument?

He's good enough to not be released. GB would acknowledge that.
He's good enough that he has trade value. GB would acknowledge that.
He's good enough to be better than what Chicago currently has. GB would acknowledge that.
He's good enough to be better than what Minnesota currently has, at least in the immediate term. GB would acknowledge that likelihood.

How does the above mean he should start FOR GB?!! Whether he starts for GB should rest SOLELY on what goes on in the Packer organization, plain and simple, and what goes on in the other three teams in the NFC North does not measure significantly in that. And, for the record, based purely on what's been seen publicly, I think Favre should start over Rodgers. I just see nothing illogical with the argument that, if he's not good enough to start for GB, or at least too much of a headache to start for GB, we will not trade him in-division.

I sense behind the scenes something that has ripped the ties between the team and Favre, and many fans are clearly sick of his waffling. One thing's for sure, Rodgers will be given the benefit of the doubt at least in the beginning for how he's not perpetuated this controversy. He's the only party with only one misstep. Everyone else has had numerous...

I don't want to root for GB, but I may have to this year, somewhat. At least against the Titans :)

This view by a few fans is insane and this view by Packer management/ownership is insane. Players with a quarter of Favre's talent get treated with more respect. Players that hold out get treated with more respect. Players that get arrested get treated with more respect.

How anyone could turn their back on maybe the best quarterback that ever lived; coming off of one of his best seasons because he decided a full 3 months before the season starts that he wants to play is beyond me. To make this insane decision even more insane; the Packers are doing this for....Aaron ******* Rodgers?

Wtf? They aren't doing it for the other players on the team or the fans; that's for sure.

what? the Packers told Brett for the last 4 years, "do what you need to do, and let us know when you're ready"...Brett takes the Pack to the NFC title game, and loses to the eventual champ...Brett then retires, he's the Packers hero...the Packers re-tool the offense around Aaron Rogers, whose been waiting years to get his shot, he's a good QB...but then Brett says he wants to come back...the Packers tell him he can come back, but will have to compete for the starting role...Brett doesn't like this and talk begin to break down...it leads to Brett's 6 hour talk with the Packers coach...Mike doesn't even think he's in the right mindset to play...and Brett then asks for a trade...the Packers say fine, but no NFC North team...looks like it'll be the Jets.

then here we are...

it's not the Packers fault.

Go Tigers!!!

Brett has held the Packers hostage for the last three off seasons.

That being said, this is Brett Favre. If Brett wants to play, he plays.

The Packers wanted a decision from him as early as possible, trying to force the issue. They got the answer they wanted to hear and moved on. Anybody should know that he wasn't going to feel the same way in July as he did in March. That is insane to think so.

The Packers did it because they were worried what Rodgers would hold over them if he didn't play. They have a MUCH better QB in Brohm than they have in Aaron. What they did was stupid and it will cost them.

RE: NTR: Brett Favre will still wear green in 2008...
For the majority of his career Brett was a breathe of fresh air in the NFL. Unfortunately the past couple of years he has become just like the majority of the superstar players. He got his ass in a wad because the team didn't go after Moss and the team didn't choose his hand picked choice for coach. The Packers have been more than fair with Brett. But when he decided that he wanted to take over making the decisions for the general manager then you knew there was trouble ahead. Brett was sitting pretty and some day may have became the general manager or maybe coach or at least having a full time post player in the front office. He didn't show the team the same amount of respect that they have showed him. The team had to look at the long term and the only thing Brett had to do is to wait a few weeks to make the decision to retire and the team would know how to go from there. The team needed to get on with their future plans get the new QB in and start developing a second. I am crazy about Brett and think he will be known as one of the greatest of all times. However this whole mess rest right at his front door.

There's validity on either side of this issue. BF is both a legend in his own time and a legend in his own mind. Does that make him an a$$hole? I think it makes him human. He simply changed his mind about doing the only thing he loves and for all intents and purposes what may well be the only thing he knows how to do well. You can't fault him for changing his mind and you can't fault the Packers for positioning themselves to move forward post Favre.

I for one would love to see him play for the Packers again but I also would love to see him playing for anyone at all again IF he isn't making the same mistake many aging boxers make..
