RE: NTR: Skip Caray passes
I'm kinda like HLT, I think I need to make another post on this topic. This has hit me a lot harder than I thought as well. Although I'm only 24, I grew up like a lot of kids my age watching the Braves on TBS. My granddad use to take me to Braves games in the late 80's early 90's. I would go and stay with my grandparents in Atlanta, and we would watch Braves baseball in person or on TBS. I would watch every game on TBS whether it was a weekday game against the Expos or a west coast game against the Dodgers. As I got older my parents started taking me to Spring Training in West Palm Beach and now in Orlando to see the Braves every March. When TBS decided to take Braves games off the air, I bought XM so I could listen to Skip and Pete call the action. Whether you liked him or not, he always told things like they were. When the Braves were terrible, he would flat out say it on the air. He always made the broadcast more enjoyable even if they were losing. Even though I didn't know him personally, I honestly feel like I've just lost a family member. I literally cried after I read some quotes from guys like Chipper Jones and Bobby Cox. This puts the exclamation point on a disastrous year for the Braves. One thing about it, Win or Lose, Braves Baseball will never be the same without him around.

wow, eventhough I was only like 4 or 5 when that happened, I've seen and heard that so many times that I can hear it in my head in perfect clarity...

Man, I am gonna miss this guy...

Almost makes me think maybe it's time I found my way back to the Braves.

I know Skip was great, but 05-nono.

Heh....baseball isn't like the University for me. No true, diehard allegiances in professional baseball.....or any pro sports for that matter. I like who I like when it comes to pro sports, and it might change next week.

Yeah, but if you grew up with baseball, it's kinda different than the others.
As an aside: It's freakin' baseball. Instant replay? I have no idea, but I'd gamble Skip wasn't for that BS. It's freakin' baseball! Kill the ump!

This sucks and just adds to the bad year for the Braves. He is going to be missed, I was so mad when they took him off the TV broadcast. I was glad to get XM so I was able to hear him on the radio when he was not on TV.

As some of you know, I've been producing Braves games on the radio for about 3 years now. We were on a plane to San Francisco when Bobby Cox came back to deliver the news to Pete Van Wieren, Joe Simpson, and me.

Baseball just lost a great friend.

Thanks for all your kind words. I'll let Chip and Josh know that Memphis sends its best.

Jake

Please do and thank you.

Skip wouldn't want you to...maybe just take a hiatus from it for a while...but trust me, he wouldn't want you to hang it up.

It was on the Atlanta Journal Constitution's website last night, it may still be on there. I would post the link but I'm at work.

I will oblige. I've listened to it about 10 times already this morning. Today is a very sad day for all Braves fans, and fans of baseball everywhere.

My dad and I were at that game. It's one of my all-time best memories of me and my dad together.

That call still gives me chills. I remember exactly where I was then. After the Tigers, I am a huge Braves fan. I have listened to Skip since I moved there in 1981. I will miss him. Rest in peace, Skip. Tell your dad hello for me. I grew up listening to Harry on Cards broadcasts.

One of the greats. Seems that Harry, Jack, and Skip might be enjoying the playoffs from up above with a big smile on their faces this year.

RE: NTR: Skip Caray passes
Wow, that gave me chills and I'm a Cards fan. I remember watching that game on TV...what a great play from pitch, to swing to that slide by Bream.

TBS was the original Superstation and if you had cable or even the big dish when they launched you pretty much knew all about the Braves back then. Like I said, I'm a Cards fan but I love baseball. So if TBS was blasting a game on their airwaves then I was watching. Of course I loved those weeks when they would play the Cards, but mostly I didn't care cause I got to watch baseball and didn't care who was playing. I really enjoyed Murphy and those guys even though they never did much of anything...still, it was baseball...on TV. And Skip was right there telling you everything there was to know about it.

RIP SKIP!!!

I remember the Sid Bream call very well. I was holding my newborn son. The same son who told me Skip had died yesterday. RIP Skip

Please do pass them along. This is a sad moment for the Caray family and baseball as a whole. Thanks.
