The First 48
A friend told me today that she heard The First 48 is in trouble cause of them showing the Lester St murders. Has anyone else heard this? I tried to look online and could not find anything.

The confession was broadcast. Since the case has yet to come to trial, if there is one, the defense could easily contend that airing the confession creates unjust prejudice towards the defendant.
Picking an impartial jury will be more difficult. I doubt that I could sit on that jury after watching the show.

Me too, but if I were his defense attorney, how do you not argue it to the end? And to be quite honest, I hope his attorney does. As unfortunate as it sometimes is, the legal system is there to protect the person being prosecuted as much as it is the victims. I also thought they showed too much in the Taylor Bradford case. I preface this by saying that had I stayed in law school for more than 3 1/2 months (I absolutely hated it and I was the worst person I've ever been I was so miserable), I saw my future in law definitely on the defense side, probably civil but would have loved to do criminal, as well.
At first I was against the MPD decision to drop ties with the show, but I am now 100% in favor of it unless A&E were to only show closed cases. A&E is seriously jeopardizing the ability of the DA's office getting guilty verdicts for these heinous crimes.

I know a lot of people that did/could not watch the show. I really dont think they will have a problem picking a jury that has not seen the show. I am happy I dont live in Memphis. I would hate to be on this jury!

I'm not a lawyer and I know there are at least a couple on here that are that will correct me if I'm wrong, but how much would it matter if the person actually viewed the show. It's becoming common knowledge that his confession was aired on national television well before the case. How much does that matter?

If his testimony in the courtroom strays from what you remember from the show, which time is he lying? He has already given two versions and I would wager a defense will come up with a third if insanity isn't involved.
Spoiler alert: Mphsfan, don't read any further.
The guy is a damn good liar. The detective explained that he is institutionalized, which explains how he knows what to say, what he can't say, etc. That is one cold-blooded dude.

Anyone know if the state parole board that let him out after 14 years for the murder has felt any heat?

The saddest thing that for whatever reason isn't really coming out is how this was a gang house and they were dealing drugs with all of the children hanging around. Jesse did it to them but sooner or later something bad was going to happen at this house.

I had also heard this, but it was speculation. Do you believe this to be fact? The media doesn't report this kind of thing because it is "convicting" the victims.
