Dance schools
My 4 year old wants to go to dance class. I wanted to know if anyone knew of a good place. I live in Olive Branch but will go as far as Bartlett. Thanks.

Not sure if they still do it, but when our daughter was that age (1999), we enrolled her in a class at Ballet Memphis (Trinity RD, just west of G'Town PKWY) that she loved.

What little girl doesn't like to get dressed up in ballet tights and slippers and dance like a princess???

It's in their brochure.
Quote:Discover Dance (ages 3-5) — The Discover Dance program for young children is designed to reinforce and stimulate the developmental patterns of the young child. Beginning at age 3, this creative dance program helps children develop rhythm, motion, coordination, and self-expression and prepares them for further study in the challenging discipline of ballet.

Students are placed in Discover Dance 3, 4, 5, and Ballet I levels by age. All students enrolling in these classes must be the required age on or before June 1, 2008. No exceptions will be made on initial class placement. Each student is then continuously evaluated throughout the year and moved to another class when deemed appropriate by the Instructor or School Principal.
My daughter is wanting to do ballet too.

It seems high but probably isn't. The tuition isn't the half of it. You have to get their outfits too.

I'm not sure for dance, but it sure seems kid things in general are expensive now. My nephew just started played football (He's 5) and my brother told me it's $350.

Football maybe so because of the equipment. Soccer and T-ball and basketball only cost me $25. Actually basketball didn't cost me anything since I was refunded the money for coaching.

RE: Dance schools
Jenn, my daughter, Sunshine, took dance (jazz, tap & ballet), acrobatics and voice at Performing Arts of Germantown from 5-17 years of age. Elizabeth Brown own/runs it. It is THE BEST in the mid-south area, hands down. It's not the cheapest but the best. She also took some pretty intense ballet classes at Ballet Memphis for several years. Between all those classes plus competitive cheerleading I met myself coming taking her to classes before she could drive. Sunshine always did the Mid-South Fair Youth Talent contests and always did well, worked at Libertyland as an entertainer when she was 16 and then at Six Flags Over Georgia in Atlanta when she was 17. There are a number of good dance schools out there but if you are truly serious about good training there are only a very few.

Just promise that you will allow your husband to leave after his daughter is finished.
I never could make it to dance recitals, I always had dentist appointments that conflicted.

I can't tell you how many recitals I have been to in my lifetime but I will say Performing Arts is the absolute only ones I have been to that I wasn't bored to tears.

We didn't pay that much back then, but it was not for a "semester" either. Much shorter period........
