cyclers
i just started biking, nothing real competitive mainly just fitness. neway, i'm looking into getting a heart rate moniter. the majority of the ones out there are for running. seems like my main choices are going to be the polar cs300 or the garmin 405. i like both, but garmin is a bit pricey. the polar has everything i want, but seems people are having problems with it and keep having to return it. problem with that is, it doesn't seem the stores around here carry it and i would have to order it online and i don't really feel like having to send it back and forth. the garmin is nice, but again expensive and doesn't have all of the stuff the polar does, but it seems to be a lot more reliable.

any suggestions or any experience in this area??

thanks ya'll

RE: cyclers
My wife got the Polar F6 and she's been real happy with it. No problems at all. I think she paid about $120 (shipping incl. in that price) for it.

I guess it's more for fitness, but she's happy with the Polar brand.

RE: cyclers
My Brother has the Garmin 4Runner 405 and he absolutely loves it. He takes a small piece of pipe insulation and puts it on his bike and mounts it on his bike instead of wearing it. What he doesn't like about it is it doesn't accept a device to keep track of his cadence. Cadence is (at least in my mind) way more important than speed especially if you plan on cross training. However; that may not be an important factor for you, but if plan on competing at all you might want to consider one that keeps track of your heart rate as well a cadence.

i think the 405 has a attachment you can buy to mount on the bike for speed/cadence. those are big factors for me, but wouldn't mind having them. hr, calories, distance are big for me. but i'm sure the more i get into it other things will become more important.
