Who cares? I'm getting so sick of this mentality among sports reporters. Nobody gives real info any longer. All we get is a steady diet of who's better than who.

Who gives a sh!t!?!?!? 03-banghead

These kinds of stories are all opinion, and we all know what opinions are like. They should send these jerks to a school of journalism so they'd know how to write a real story. At present, they don't.

I suggest you take a break from the internet if you don't like stuff like this. It's the middle of the summer and the writers have to come up with something to fill their pages. At least this writer attempted to come up with an objective formula for the rankings.

Don't quit your day job. West Virginia is 67. Marquette is 61.

I think Syracuse and UConn will make top 10. GT and UL won't.

My father was a JOURNALIST. He was able to write stories with substance, no matter the season or time of year. Today we have athletes, with absolutely no journalistic training or tradition, giving us the sports news written by jocks, with a jock mentality. Any moron can do that.

Where is Howard Cosell when you need him? Dead... you b@st@rds.!.!.!. 03-banghead

Times have changed, friendo. There used to be one college game on TV per week. There was no such thing as the internet. In your dad's time college basketball writers took the summer off. They didn't have to write a single basketball column in the months of May, June, July, August, September, or October.

ESPN.com does not shut down in the summer. They have to come up with fresh material 365 days a year. It is what it is. Don't read it if you don't like it.

I would guess....even with last three years included UC should still be Top 20. I believe at one point near the end of the 90's UC was somewhere in the top 5 for wins for that decade.....

SU may have played itself out of the top 10 with 2 seasons of missing the ncaa's and mediocre play.

He's going back to 1985 so Syracuse is in very, very good shape. I think he gives one point for making the NACCs. With one title and two runner-ups the cuse racks up 65 points. I don't know it tops 10. UCLA wins hands down. MAybe North carolina number two. Duke is top 6. So I guess there's room for the Cuse in the top 10 or just outside it. ESPN is also counting conference titles, so that's good news for Syracuse.

You make a good point about SU. But where do you get UCLA winning hands down? They were pretty quiet for a bunch of years since 1985, and have just now got back on top since they landed Ben Howland.

Duke is easily number 1. They may only have 3 NCs but they have a ton of runner ups which is just a little less than a NC. Also there's also all the 10 ten picks and all americans they have.

Also UCLA might not even be in the top 10. Remember UCLA only has 1 NC during this period and if not for the last 3 Howland years they won't even be top 20.

If I was to guess the top 10 its

1.Duke
2.UNC
3.Kansas
4.Kentucky
5.Uconn
6.SU
7.Arizona
8.Indiana
9.MSU
10. UCLA

I agree. Duke has got to be #1. I also agree with your top 7. However, I'm not totally sold on 8 thru 10. That being said, I can't think of who would knock any of those out of the top 10.

You're right. I was thinking of UCLA over it's entire history and not since 1984. ESPN just knocks off 10 UCLA titles-250 points and four FFs 80 points. Syr loses a FF in 1975 a conference title in 80 and a BE tournament title in 81- for 23 points.

When I first saw it yesterday I said 15-25. I'm leaning toward 13-20 after seeing who was at 31-40. If someone put a gun to my head right now I'd throw out 16 or 17. We did get a minus for being on probation the 1986-1987 season.
