RE: What's your ideal OOC schedule?
In football, I'd love to see Cincinnati play, obviously Ohio State because they're a state BCS program and their tradition and it helps get us a regional and national fan base. Michigan State since they're one of our primary recruiting rivals. Michigan just because I always wanted to see UC play Michigan. And, annually, I'd love to see UC play a rotating schedule of Indiana, Kentucky and Purdue. Local teams to help build a regional fan base.

RE: What's your ideal OOC schedule?
My ideal OOC schedule would only consist of one or two games.
In a perfect world each conference would have 11 teams. Each team would have to play every other team in their conference, which would leave two OOC games.
One game would be for your best OOC rival (Fla. State-Florida, Georgia-Georgia Tech, Maryland-West Virginia).
The other game would be to play another BCS team and rotate the opposing conference each year.
If you had 12 teams in your conference, I would still want to play every team in my conference and have only 1 OOC game (see above).

RE: What's your ideal OOC schedule?
My ideal OOC schedule runs more like...
Boston College ( or - even better - Ohio State)
Maryland
Penn State
Virginia ( or Virginia Tech)
Kentucky ( or another SEC foe)
I realize this will never happen. But we did say IDEAL...

RE: What's your ideal OOC schedule?
I think ideal for the fans would be all tough opponents. But that is NOT ideal for the program.
So for USF Ideal for the fan would be:
Florida
Florida State
Miami
UCF
SEC team like- Georgia,Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee
Ideal for the program:
1AA- FAMU,Villanova
Miami
Florida-Florida State-Georgia-Auburn-Alabama-Clemson-Tennessse-LSU on a rotating basis
UCF-UAB-Tulane-So Miss-ECU-Memphis-Indiana-Duke-lower BCS teams on a rotating basis
FIU-FAU-Western Kentucky-Troy-MAC teams on a rotating basis

UC vs Purdue, Mich. St., UK, IU, and Ill. because:
1. they are winnable
2. regional interest
3. bsc schools

RE: What's your ideal OOC schedule?
KnightChris Wrote:Hey everybody! UCF/Syracuse fan here... I was recently reading an article complaining about SU's scheduling of Northeastern this season. Seemed a strange complaint to me, as many (most?) BCS programs are scheduling FCS competition. Also, many of the teams getting scheduled are far worse than Northeastern.
In any event, it got me thinking about what I would consider the "perfect" OOC Syracuse schedule. I'll post mine below, but I invite all of you to share what you would like to see YOUR school do for their five OOC games.
As a caveat: I took into account that Syracuse is in a down period right now, so I didn't want to schedule Texas-USC-Florida-LSU-Michigan. However, at the same time I didn't want to play Sisters of the Poor five times. Tried to strike a nice balance. Also, preference given to match-ups with regional interest.
GAME 1: Kick off the season with an FBS game. I have no problem with that, in fact I encourage it since that one win could be the difference between going bowling or not. However, I think we can come up with a more interesting matchup for our fans than Northeastern. How about one of the Big East basketball schools that play FCS football? Georgetown is a possibility, but I think Villanova is a better football team, so they would make for a more respectable match-up.
GAME 2: Play a MAC team. This season we have Akron on the schedule. I'd rather see us play Buffalo or Temple again. Buffalo, like Syracuse, is one of only 3 FBS teams in New York state (the other being Army). Temple is a former Big East member. Both would be very manageable road-trips for our fanbase. See if we can get 2-for-1 deals with each and then rotate these two every year.
GAME 3: Play a service academy. I'm thinking Army & Navy moreso than Air Force. Neither Army nor Navy are bad road trips for our fanbase (Air Force would be). They're respectable opponents and people are always interested in a match-up with either. Again, I'd want to rotate those two every year.
...at this point, SU has a decent chance of being 3-0, and I don't think we've had a game yet that fans wouldn't at least be a LITTLE interested in. Time to toughen up the schedule a bit...
GAME 4: Play an ACC opponent. Boston College would be the most obvious. Another Northeast team, plus they have Big East history. I'd also like to see Maryland added to a rotation with BC. Maryland's a doable road trip, and I really like their head coach (Ralph Friedgen).
GAME 5: The BIG game. This will be the one game a year our fans circle on their calendars and say they "can't wait for that one!" I'm thinking a rotation of Penn State & Notre Dame. Penn State's an historical rival and another Northeast team (decent road trip). Notre Dame's less of a rival (most of our history with them is limited to the 60's... though it does include a game at Yankee Stadium) and the road trip would absolutely suck. However, fans are always excited for a game with Notre Dame. I've heard rumors about Syracuse or Rutgers playing Notre Dame at Giants Stadium. I wouldn't have a problem with this IF (and only if) it was a 7th home game for us that year. I live in NYC, so it's great for me, but it's not fair for people in Syracuse to have a home game taken away from them.
Both teams are on the schedule this year, but until Syracuse gets the program back on track, I'd only like to see one of these two teams on the schedule each season.
In short, here's my ideal OOC schedule:
1: Villanova/Georgetown
2: Buffalo/Temple
3: Army/Navy
4: Boston College/Maryland
5: Penn State/Notre Dame
Thoughts? What would be your dream OOC schedule for your school?
-Chris
Chris I don't want SU playing Buffalo right now god forbid Syracuse actually loses that game well . When SU gets back on its feet I wouldn't mind games with BC,Maryland,PSU all football games the Syracuse Fanbase can drive to easy. Nova,Temple are both great trips but Buffalo no not when UB is winning, SU doesn't want this.

Regardless of how you arrange the three letters, that's exactly what it is

I'd like to see WVU play:
Every year
1) Virginia Tech
2) Maryland
3) East Carolina
as for the other two...wouldn't mind seeing a cross regional game that would be good for TV and a IAA/one and done game that is good for the bottom line and for the win column

RE: What's your ideal OOC schedule?
KnightChris excellent analysis from a Cuse POV. Can't argue with anything.
Couple minor points: Temple would be hesitant doing a 2 for 1 with Syracuse since they used to get 1 for 1's
No issues with playing Buffalo 2 for 1 we should play them 3 out of every 6 years
Service Academies--yes.....wouldn't mind a 1 for 1 with USAFA once every decade so over a decade: 4 years Army, 4 years Navy, 2 years USAFA

If we have to play a 1-AA team, I'd prefer one of the basketball schools. That way we can keep the monies in the conference. Otherwise, UMass, Delaware, Appalachian, or another 1-AA power would be preferable.

RE: What's your ideal OOC schedule?
1. Ohio State- i'd like to have an in-state rivalry of that caliber
2. IU, Purdue, or Kentucky- another local rivalry
3. Miami Redhawks- we've had a good rivalry for a while but make it a home game every year or see ya
4. Mich St- you have the OSU-Michigan rivalry, why not MSU-Cincy...at the very least it would be an interesting story line
5. Marshall- Gotta love trouncing them
