Megabus - Memphis to Chicago
Anybody used this service? You can buy tickets starting at $1 each way. As those seats fill, prices go up.
Looking beyond Labor Day, I can go round trip for $2.
Looking to go see da Bulls, maybe.
Worried that the bus may be filled with UT fans who consider this an alternative to rent.

I seen it today in the Drury parking lot when I was at Waffle House. It was advertising $1 each way with 50 cent reservation fees. Sounds good to me. I wouldn't mind going to Chicago if I could go to a Cubs game, or a Royals game against the Soxs.

RE: Megabus - Memphis to Chicago
I rode it from Chicago to Minneapolis and back.

pretty good, can't beat the price.

the top level of the double decker can be warmer, and the bottom tends to fill up first, so if you have bags and want to be in the bottom, get in the front part of the baggage line.

unfortunately for me, the best travel times were overnight, and it's slightly attractive to not lose a day in travel, but bus seats are small for sleeping, so I don't recommend it. the train is much better for sleeping, although not great.

I haven't done the Chicago (or Champaign in my case) to Memphis route yet, but I plan to sometime later this year when I can go for $2.50 round trip.

RE: Megabus - Memphis to Chicago
I have riden the Megabus many of times out of STL to Kansas City and Chicago . . . I think it is better than the train and a whole lot cheaper. However, I do not know if I would ride from Memphis to Chicago becasue that is a long trip! THe bus service is not like Greyhound, but has a more European feel to it . . . lets just say it is a lot nicer than any other bus service in the US.

Honestly, that's only about 45 minutes -1 hour longer than taking a car- and a helluva lot cheaper...

Bumping this old thread. I'm thinking about making a quick run to Chicago within the next few weeks. Has anyone used this service lately?

I've used it once. Everything went just fine for me. I have relatives that have used it several times and I have not heard any complaints.

RE: Megabus - Memphis to Chicago
Not lately, but I was thinking about it again the other day. I had a friend who used it a couple years ago and raved about it. He went from here to Chicago and said they provided movies to watch all night and he got there before he knew it. He got off at the wrong station, though, and had to catch a cab. So, watch that!

I would love to have an update on it.

Is there a car rental facility wherever the bus unloads in Chicago?
