When Barry Bonds went to the Giants, he originally wanted No. 24. Willie Mays is Bonds' godfather and said it was okay.

Predictably, Giants fans went nuts, and Bonds immediately said he'd wear No. 25 like his dad did.

Folks, it is hard to be less politically correct than Barry Bonds, but ETSU somehow found a way to do it.

Speaking of semantics...I'd argue that you've got the politically correct argument backwards. It has always been my belief that political correctness is a tumor on our society. In my opinion ETSU did the politically correct thing, in this case. They rescinded an honor they bestowed on a white guy in order to give a black kid the number of his choice. That sounds politically correct to me.

I don't like the term either, but I think you got the point.

Regarding the Blue campaign, I like the fact that someone on campus is thinking and promoting what could be. While they're at it, how about a new logo or an additional logo. One that we could agree on and rally around. I would like to see something creative with the letters ET.

As for the arena, Winston-Salem and Wake Forest have the right idea. Joel Lawrence Coliseum (Winston-Salem Entertainment-Sports Complex) is owned by the city and used by WF. It is located near the WF campus and also used for ice hockey, public skating, concerts, NCAA tournaments and other events.

In the case of ETSU the old White's Supermarket site on State of Franklin--would be a perfect site (although a new store is going in). It's close to the university, students could walk over and it easily accessible to the region.

State- I like the location too. And remember there's already a parking lot and there probably wouldn't be zoning issues. I even think it's on the bus line.

However, tell me the civic leaders of the town would actually consider doing that. Tell me they wouldn't say "WHAT? WE CAN'T PUT IT THERE! THERE'S A 22-YEAR-OLD SHOPPING CENTER LOCATED NEXT TO A FAR NEWER AND DIVERSE ONE ON THE SITE NOW!"

After reading that and promptly vomiting, I have to just say WHAT THE FLOCK?! This is what happens when Adobe's products get into the wrong hands, you get cheeseball slogans that make Dr. Evil's lines in the Austin Powers movies seem hip.
