RE: BE bball schedule released!
Got to admit, I kind of like Syracuse's BE schedule.

We avoid having home-and-homes with the four teams that are in everybody's pre-season Top 10 - Pitt, UConn, UL, and ND. And we split those single four games with the first two being on the road and the latter two being at home.

We have home-and-homes with Georgetown and Nova, two arenas where we tend to do well. We also split the next best BE teams facing Marquette on the road, while getting the Eers at home.

The tale for the Orange's NCAA hopes next year will be how well we do against Pitt, UConn, and Memphis on the road.

Cheers,
Neil

The Charleston Gazette Wrote:WVU gets Big East hoops slate

The Big East has announced the 2008-09 league opponents and game sites for West Virginia as well as the conference's other men's basketball teams.

West Virginia will play home games against Connecticut, DePaul, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pitt, Providence, St. John's, South Florida and Villanova. WVU will play road games at Cincinnati, Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Pitt, Rutgers, Seton Hall, USF and Syracuse.

The Big East will begin its second season featuring an 18-game league schedule. The 18-game format allows teams to play each opponent once and three teams twice.

"Top to bottom, I think the Big East will be loaded this season,'' said Mountaineer coach Bob Huggins via a release. "There are a number of quality players returning on each team."

"We always look forward to the Big East schedule and the competition it brings. We have a bunch of guys who have played Big East basketball and know its style of play. We believe our non-conference schedule will give us enough balance.''

The decisions regarding repeat opponents are based on rivalries, television contract obligations, geography and natural interest. West Virginia's repeat opponents for this season are Louisville, Pitt and South Florida.

All 144 regular-season Big East conference games will again be televised, either by CBS Sports, the ESPN family of networks or ESPN Regional Television.

The full 2008-09 conference schedule, including that of WVU, will be announced at a later date.

Once again I am amazed that WVU/UC are not a home and home....the game would be a sellout both places and would have a good chance to be on TV...

True. But Huggins does visit UC this year.

I wonder if the league office has anything planned, or will they try to play it down? You know ESPN will be all over it.

I agree UC and WVU should be home and home this year. I'm also a little dismayed that yet again RU-WVU is not a home and home.

I think I've heard rumors that Maryland also wants to continue their series with Rutgers. Its a natural made rivalry similar to the rivalry between UMD and WVU.

RE: BE bball schedule released!
In a perfect world Cincy would have a home and home with both U of L and WVU year in and year out, but because of league balancing that could never happen. However, I think each team should have 1 team that is a home and home every year, schedules could be balanced based on those games as well. In Cincinnati's case we would play UL every year based on our history. This would increase ratings and revenue as well, however common sense was never one of the BE's strengths.

Nice continuing the Georgetown and Villanova home and home for 'Cuse. Would have liked UConn too, but then again it would have made a tougher schedule. Agree with omni that the schedule is very favorable for us. Since I live in Philly, can't wait for the 'Nova-Cuse game at the Wachovia Center again this year. Syracuse fans dominate that place.

It's more than a rumor, Jackson. There are talks going on about continuing WVU's series with Maryland, in both football and basketball.

As for Terp scheduling, I'd like to see them scheduling every team in The BEast every year. Maybe they'll decide to join us someday... 04-cheers
