Orlando Sentinel: Five Years After
"The perception: The ACC would become a true superconference on par with other 12-team leagues like the SEC and Big 12.

The reality: Eh, not yet. Football is 0-for-BCS games since realignment. Basketball has not exactly flooded the NCAA Tournament with teams on Selection Sundays; rivalries and tradition have been diminished. The football championship game has been a ratings and ticket-selling disappointment."

ESPN picked up on that too. They've mentioned similar recently.

How? By most accounts their current TV deal is overpriced and will go down.
They're never gonna rule the Southern TV markets as long as the SEC is around.
Boston may tune in if BC is winning, but Boston has other options if BC is losing. They gain a market in Miami if Miami can become the old Miami again. (This past season Miami's seating was at 50 percent capacity.) The ACC certainly did not hit the bullseye.

RE: Orlando Sentinel: Five Years After
I was wondering where all this mega conference talk was coming from. No small wonder it's coming from some hack in the Magic Kingdom. His mega conference senario is a pipe dream. A figment of an overactive imagination. His hate for the Big East is borderline laughable. He can't explain how he came about putting together his mega conferences or how he can justify leaving Louisville, Cincinnati and South Florida out of the mix. Never fear friends.... As long as the delusional like Stephens are pushing the mega conference concept our present conference configurations are very safe.

I did however enjoy his statements about the present state of the ACC. I believe he has been reading some of the things written on this board.

And so did the Big East as much as people want to deny it.
