RE: OT: Possible Move to Australia
First off, congrats on the oppurtunity. All 3 are fun places to go. As far as living I would prefer Australia. The weather is nicer and you will have as much fun as the other places. Look into the cost of living at all 3 choices and see which will provide the most money for you and your family as well. I wish you the best of luck in your decision.

RE: OT: Possible Move to Australia
My cousin lived in Australia for over 5 years with his family and loved it. He was down there for a stint with a major USA corporation in an attempt to move up the corporate ladder too. My sister also travels through there for a international corporation and only has good things to say about it to.

Congrats on the offer Jim! Many would not be able to make such a move, but depending on where you and your wife are in life it could be unbelievable. Such a change will have some significant pros and cons for most, so it is a tough decision. Good luck to you and your wife!

Frankly, I thought Seven Hills looked like a typical medium sized American town with the way houses were built, layout of the town, etc.

First of all, thanks for all the well wishes. If we take the assignment I would look for it to be a permanent thing. It's in my wife's hands now. If she decides she wants to go, we'll be going. My boss called me about it again yesterday and said if she didn't like Australia, how about Europe? I just laughed. We didn't discuss where but we have a facility in Ireland and one coming on line in Germany.
We have always said we wanted to retire on a island somewhere. Australia is one big island.

Ditto that.

My Ireland Castle/Golf tour was the greatest vacation I ever took in my life.

The Irish (unlike some Brits and Frenchies) LOVE "most" Americans...so that made a big difference too.

Of course the huge advantage both Ireland and Germany have over Australia...is that both are just about 1-2 hour flights from almost every country in Europe (obviously, via train too from Germany).

Ireland, Germany, or Australia...those are THREE great places to live!

I'll bite. Australia does sound intriguing but yes the Irish are among the most American friendly partly because so many Americans can claim at least partial Irish ancestry. With Ireland's economic growth over the last few decades they finally have more Irish than in New York again but there are far more Irish in the states than there.

I spoke with our CEO this morning and I ruled out Germany and Ireland. Germany no ocean and Ireland is too cool. If I take any of them, it will be Australia. Started looking at flights today. 29 hours and two to three connections from Louisville to Sydney. I go about stir crazy now commuting from Louisville to LA. I can't imagine what a flight from LA to Sydney is going ot be like.

Do it - sounds like a great opportunity.

Any job openings at your company?

Wow, Jim! I am self-employed but, wow! I would consider moving to Australia. Of all the countries in the world, Australia and USA seem very similar.

One of my best friends is from Australia. His folks still live there, and he tries to get back as often as he can.

Best of luck, whatever you and your wife decide.
