RE: McCain: Record low support among youth
the GOP did try to reform SS few years back, which got nowhere fast because the Dems refuse to give up the issue mainly and it was a non-Govt. solution, privatizing a portion of it. AARP ran ads demonizing it to no end....guess what, Old people vote and get taken advantage of. Politically impossible at the moment.
has nothing to do with the youth, like always on average they are ignorants that watch too much MTV, Jon Stewart and influenced by the liberal professors in college. very few of them care about SS and thinks to their programming and pressupositions of the world the last thing they care about is privatization of SS.

RE: McCain: Record low support among youth
thats because too many of us have school paid for.. and have always been told that if we cant do it someone will help.. and so they figure we need to continue pumping money into the government.. but don't realize we are pumping money into a sinking ship, and I will NEVER see a dime, or anywhere close to .50 on the dollar i paid in.. because I wont be eligible for more than 40 years..
Unfortunately people think its cool and popular to bash this country, and george bush for things that he hasnt done.. you ask most people under 25 they think 3 things.. 1) George Bush is causing the rising gas prices(not the dems who keep blocking domestic oil production) 2) Tax cuts by george bush only saved money for the richest americans (because the media told us that, but if they would look into it.. rich american just got more of their earned money back by dollars, and an average family of 4 making $50000 saves 2500 each year.. 3) To fix our monetary problems we should pump more money into taxes and let the government do it..
Liberals politicians only are liberals because they want to have a job in 40 years when the government blows what they are proposing now.. republicans.. or should i say conservatives because the republican party has strayed from the conservative principles.. believe by fixing the problem now with less intervention will allow people to live a more free and fulfilling life.. unfortunately most people aren't educated in politics enough to make a decision on their own and they go on their parents or friends thought process which makes for a long line of followers behind one leader..
in my experience.. the people who truly know about politics as in are immersed on a daily basis are a far higher percentage conservative than they are liberal.. which makes complete sense on why many young people who are still finding themselves would be followers of a few, rather than one of own mind in crowd of many conservatives..

From Winston Churchhill -
"If you are not a liberal at twenty, you have no heart. If you are not a conservative at forty, you have no brain."
I think the old guy kinda nailed it.

I sure hope you two are damn smart and can use your good sense to make your life worthwhile. You can!
The BS spewed on here about "How good 'CHANGE' is GOING TO BE...is just that 'going to be' " IF is a long way down an unknown road of bad planning.
The "Minds Fulla Mush" crowd, sure better hope that their Daddy is going to take care of 'em. Quit dreamin' ! !

The GOP didn't try & reform social security, Bush did (the one good thing he actually tried). Republicans & Democrats alike in Congress refused to support Bush's efforts at privatization. After all, they were the ones up for re-election & who would have had to face the wrath of the AARP if they came out in favor of privatization.
You are completely wrong on the youngsters. The truth is that no demographic in this country is more in favor of social security reform & privatization than Generation Next, despite your claims to the contrary. Which makes sense, because they know they are paying into a bankrupt system that won't have anything left for them by the time they retire.
Quote:http://people-press.org/reports/pdf/300.pdf
Beyond these social issues, their views defy easy categorization. For example, Generation Next is less critical of government regulation of business but also less critical of business itself. And they are the most likely of any generation to support privatization of the Social Security system.
