saw that coming. oh well...by the way HoopDreams...I talked to someone recently up in the New England area that would know and he said he's not convinced that the list that supposedly came out from Stephenson Sr. in the Arky newspaper was legit.

Bummer but no surprise.
As always I have confidence in Cal to get the right guys for his style of play.

RE: McDonald commits to UNC
Does UNC still have the tradition of playing a road game in a senior's hometown?
If so, I smell a Tiger vs Tarheel matchup in our future.[/align]

RE: McDonald commits to UNC
Leslie is a very good player and a top notch kid. The thing that he has against him for us is does he fit in? Leslie comes from a middle class family with both parents in the home. He's not exactly the prototype player that Cal likes i.e. the kid that has had it tough, the kid that comes from difficult circumstances and has had to fight through it. I've know Leslie since he was 11 years old (he was a chubby kid believe it or not). In my honest opinion he fits at UNC or Duke. I'm thrilled for him and his Dad.

RE: McDonald commits to UNC
Great choice for Leslie. I wish him well at UNC. Amazing where Cal has our program sitting at right now. We have two blue chippers leave the city in consecutive years and there is absolutley no stress or ill will here for the most part. Cal has gone outside the city to make this a national program. One of the things that the "experts" say is that Memphis is such an easy job because there is so much talent here. Well, Cal has done it for the most parts with players from cities that had no prior connections to the memphis program before. It's been said many times here before but...Cal is the Man!!!!

As a Memphis and Carolina fan, definitely glad he's not going to UT or Dook.
Carolina definitely still has the policy of scheduling a "home" game for all its scholarship players at some point during their career.
A Memphis-Carolina game would be sweet---a great made for TV event.

RE: McDonald commits to UNC
This pretty much eliminates UNC for any more recruits. It is nice to know that Nolan Dennis & others are now off the UNC radar. It looks like Kansas & Memphis are #1 & #2 for both Henry & Dennis right now. I would take 1 of those 2 in a heartbeat. This is overall good news for Memphis because we were competing with UNC for many recruits & it is doubtful we would have beat them out.

not so fast my friend!! It was well known that UNC was at one point very interested in Derrick Rose and also had Tyreke Evans as their top target very early on in the recruiting process. Things change, but never count out Cal and co.
I would take Rose and Evans over any recruit they got in the '07, '08 and '09 classes.

Is that really their policy? That would be SWEEEET. UNC - Memphis, in Memphis. That would be some kind of game. Hopefully McDonald stays all 4 years, as that will give more opportunity to make this happen.

RE: McDonald commits to UNC
There hasn't been much talk about Memphis and McDonald in the past 4 months, so I'm not really surprised. If both parties were genuinely interested, you know we would have heard more in the media over the past weeks, as the CA would have been able to interview both Memphis and McDonald over the course of an afternoon. Instead, we have been receiving alot more coverage of 2009 recruits that are hundreds/thousands of miles away.
Just out of curiousity, I wonder how much Pearl and Tennstud tipped at the barber shop. Along the same line, I wonder how much you can tip in a situation like that without it becoming an NCAA violation.

This is not suprising...except to the delusional UT-K fans and their scum of a coach. A local "unofficial" booster is probably suprised as well and taking his business elsewhere.
Of course Pearl wasn't there for the haircut--and maybe not even for Leslie--he was probably more interested in being "Little Quickie". So, he probably still considers it money well spent. I wonder how many strike-outs Pearl will endure before closing shop in Memphis.

Best of luck to Leslie . . . maybe old Sweathog should shift his attention to Hutchison and St. Mary's if he's going to keep trying to recruit in Memphis. I'm sure he probably stops by there to check out the girls anyway.

BIGGESTTIGERJLB Wrote:Not sure what they're reporting, but here is what IC is reporting.....
What were your overall impressions of the visit?
UNC is great. During my visit I talked to the coaching staff and they showed me around their offices. They brought me down to the gym and just let me observe the gym and I saw all of the Carolina blue and UNC emblem. It was amazing.
What else did you get to see?
They gave me a tour around campus and I got to see the dorms, the rec center and the Dean Smith facility and Coach Roy Williams' offices and the whole coaching staffs office and the weight room. They took me, basically, everywhere.
What were your impressions of the players?
They are really cool and really good down to earth guys. They were just really cool and made me feel welcome.
Did you get to play any ball while you were in town?
I shot a couple of shots in the gym and me and my dad shot a couple of shots in the gym. The coaching staff wasn't able to be in the gym while we were doing that, but they gave me and my dad a shooting gun and told me I could put up as many shots as I wanted. I had a little workout there.
What did you think of the Dean Dome?
I can't even explain it, it was so amazing. I was just amazed.
I'm sure you got a chance to sit down with Roy Williams, how did that go?
Roy Williams is a down to earth, real personal guy. He wants to get to know you and he talked about my family and he's more of a family coach and he wants to know about your personal life. He's a real down to earth guy. He's a real good coach and when we talked about my game, he showed me some things that I do really, really well and he was showing me things that I need to improve. All he was telling me was how much he wanted to improve my game.
You then went over to Duke afterwards - what were your impressions of the Duke visit?
The Duke trip was a great trip, too. I didn't know Duke was so close together. Duke is a whole different world. That's what amazed me, because going from Chapel Hill to Durham and then seeing Duke - it's like a whole different world. Their campus has a little gothic look to it, but it's great and they have a great environment and the facilities are great.
As you said, UNC and Duke are very different schools and programs...how would you compare the two and did you see one as a better fit?
I can't compare them because UNC is more of a spacious campus, where Duke is more in a little bubble. But if I was asked which one was the best or which one I felt better in, I just felt welcome in both of them. This is telling you the truth, seeing all of these campuses it's going to be hard to make a decision.
Did UNC and Duke talk about what role you'd play on their teams?
Starting off with Coach K he told me that he really sees me as a player like Gerald Henderson. He compared me to that type of player. When I talked to Roy Williams he talked to me about being a Wayne Ellington and also talked about one of his former players from Kansas, Kirk Hinrich. They showed me some comparisons.
Did either of the schools push for a commitment while you were there?
No, sir. When we were first talking, I talked to Coach K and I talked to Coach Williams - they told me that there wasn't any pressure on me. They just wanted to make me feel like I was home. They told me from the start that there was no pressure and they didn't want to pressure me into committing.
Where do you go from here with your recruitment?
After this I'm going to go home and talk to my daddy and evaluate the schools some more. This evaluation period is almost up because I've visited four out of my five schools and it's time now that I start evaluating these schools and hopefully come up with a commitment.
Do you have a timetable on when you want to get it done?
I want to get it done during the summer.
Having now visited four out of your five schools, do you have a date for a visit to the fifth school - Georgetown?
I haven't set up a date for that. I'm not sure.
What's IC? Is this a recruiting service? Does Whinebooger run this recruiting service?
You may wanna subscribe to a recruiting service that keeps more up to date than this one. Just saying.

don't see Cal going for it. unless UNC wants to schedule somebody else here in Memphis, I don't think it will happen unless it is part of a multi-year deal. In the past, schools like UNC and Duke priced themselves off the market for road games.
