RE: NTR - Favorite Prison Song
While not neccessarily about priosn - you gotta love this verse by David Allen Coe in 'You Never Even Called Me By My Name':

WELL, A FRIEND OF MINE NAMED STEVE GOODMAN WROTE THAT SONG
AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG
I WROTE HIM BACK A LETTER AND I TOLD HIM IT WAS NOT THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG BECAUSE HE HADN’T SAID ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT MAMA,
OR TRAINS,
OR TRUCKS,
OR PRISON,
OR GETTING’ DRUNK
WELL HE SAT DOWN AND WROTE ANOTHER VERSE TO THE SONG
AND HE SENT IT TO ME,
AND AFTER READING IT,
I REALIZED THAT MY FRIEND HAD WRITTEN THE PERFECT
COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG
AND I FELT OBLIGED TO INCLUDE IT ON THIS ALBUM
THE LAST VERSE GOES LIKE THIS HERE:

WELL, I WAS DRUNK THE DAY MY MOM GOT OUT OF PRISON
AND I WENT TO PICK HER UP IN THE RAIN
BUT BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE STATION IN MY PICKUP TRUCK
SHE GOT RUN NED OVER BY A DAMNED OLD TRAIN

RE: NTR - Favorite Prison Song
When I was a little girl my Dad always sang part of a song that said..."if I had the wings of an angel I'd fly...over these prison walls I'd fly". Now, my Dad was a very good singer and I remember him singing it very well but just that part of the song. As I got a little older I remember thinking why in the world is he singing that song? has he been in prison ? That scared me bad. You know, he lived to be 88 years old and I never once asked him. Maybe deep down I was scared he would say yes he'd been to prison ? 03-lmfao anyway, one more awsome memory of my Dad....thanks for reminding me TIPWAL !!:ncaabbs: googled it and look what I found

The Prisoner's Song

Oh, I wish I had someone to love me,
Someone to call me their own.
Oh, I wish I had someone to live with
'Cause I'm tired of livin' alone.

Oh, please meet me tonight in the moonlight,
Please meet me tonight all alone,
For I have a sad story to tell you,
It's a story that's never been told.

I'll be carried to the new jail tomorrow,
Leaving my poor darling alone,
With the cold prison bars all around me
And my head on a pillow of stone.

Now I have a grand ship on the ocean,
All mounted with silver and gold,
And before my poor darlin' would suffer,
Oh, that ship would be anchored and sold.

Now if I had the wings of an angel
Over these prison walls I would fly,
And I'd fly to the arms of my poor darlin',
And there I'd be willing to die.

Yeah, needs a Steve Earl and John Lee Hooker. Ran out of room, plus it's hard to concentrate in here.

Love me some Soggy Bottom Boys too..guess I'll have to vote that one since you dont have Mercy Seat listed. That movie was something else. "O Brother where art thou" should be on the favorite prison movie list too.
